According to the state tourney brochure the most runs ever scored by a 3a team in a game in tournament play was 13.

Jasper topped that tonight with 14 runs, winning 14-4 in seven innings. Good job Dogs. :)

When things are all sorted out there may also be some individual records for base hits, etc. I have not yet seen a recap. I did see somewhere that tonight EVERY Jasper batter got at least one hit.

For the two games in the tournament Jasper scored 25 runs. I did not see a category for the aggregate for one team, but that surely must be mighty close to a record if it is not a record.

That is true, but the UIL lists that as a "4a" record, because at that time the two top classes were 4a and 3a, now 5a and 4a.

It is the UIL program that I quoted from. I agree it is confusing about how they class things, but we must bow to the UIL gods. :D

Exactly. Used to be 1A - 4A plus a class B for the smallest schools.
Pschycologists said it hurt kids self esteem to be at class B school, so everyone moved up one category 1A-5A.
Seriously though, that's the way it should have been originally.

Oh yeah, note the rolling eyes, but I would guess that was one reason for change although I never heard it stated.

I think that was exactly the reason the change was made. Of course it should have always been that way. But why did they not go to new letters altogether, like X, XX, XXX, etc ;) Think of the fun we could have had with that.

The major alignments have remained the same since 1980, when they added 5A. The current system is the best (in my opinion), although the playoffs could use a little work.

Jasper sets 3a scoring record.

Seems like somebody told me at lunch Wednesday that Jasper was just an "average" hitting team. I think he was pulling my leg.:D

I told my co-workers this morning that it was probably a new record for 3A. Congrats.;)

It is true. Jasper is just an "average" Southeast Texas hitting team. Several other district teams probably hard higher batting averages, Bridge City for one. For sure, the other fans in District 21-3a did not talk in term of Jasper's hitting. In fact, some posters seemed to talk more about Jasper "luck". Funny, the harder Jasper ran, the luckier they became. :) Funny also the more Jasper ran, the more errors the other teams made.

Kind of like Jasper baseball's version of the full court press.

Amazingly, not even close.

Jasper had (per newspaper accounts, NOT official by any means) 7 steals agains AW and 9 against LE for a total of 16 stolen bases. In 1999 West had 16 stolen bases in one game, and 22 total for the tournament.

I don't think there's any doubt that Jasper is the best 3A team in the state. Superior hitting especially stands out. Plus the team speed overall. Congrats again!

I wish I could have stayed Thursday too. I would have loved to have seen that game. Next year, I'm taking vacation.
