Sonic offering free floats

04:35 PM CDT on Wednesday, June 6, 2007
By KAREN ROBINSON-JACOBS / The Dallas Morning News

Free root beer floats and a chance to meet some semi-celebs. Not a bad fast-food combo.

Sonic Drive-In is offering consumers free root beer floats between 8 p.m. and midnight Thursday. It's part of a summer promotion for the Oklahoma City-based chain, which counts Texas as one of its largest markets.

Some customers also will get to meet “Molly & Brian,” the gently bickering couple who’ve appeared in Sonic's ads since early 2005. “Molly” is Molly Erdman, a veteran of Chicago’s famed “Second City” acting ensemble who grew up in Dallas. “Brian” is Brian Huskey.

The Sonic commercials have the couple debating such weighty matters as “how hot is a hot fudge sundae.”

The banter is completely unscripted, a company spokeswoman says. Molly and Brian, both “improv” actors, are given a concept and then parley away.

Molly & Brian, along with a company marketing exec, will visit three D-FW-area Sonics Thursday as part of the summer promotion. The company doesn’t want to be specific about the three locations, so you’ll have to visit all 280 Sonics in the metro area to find them.

I hope it's not like Chipotle was on Tuesday...there were waits for over an hour, and my wife was too hungry to wait for the free burrito!

that was my take on the situation; let's just put it this way--the evening was not pleasant afterwards.

I've had lunch at Sam's club sample line several times.

As someone said about Sonic, the floats were small, but priced right and very tasty.
