No, they lost in the state title game.

Mercedes only had one good pitcher, and he pitched in the semi-final.

Difference is, Harlingen South has 2 EXCELLENT pitchers with a 3rd good pitcher. They'll definitely be ready come Saturday, however, I wouldn't be surprised if you see Danny Gidora (the ace) pitch again on Saturday.

I doubt they'll bring Gidora back, he threw well over 100 pitches today

guess Midland Lee coach now knows south pitcher Danny Gidora got his unbeaten mark against some good teams. Midland Lee coach had stated he wasnt sure how good Harlingen South pitcher was, despite the 16-0 record because he didnt know how good the kids in south texas play ball.

Congrates to South on the victory first of all !!!

2nd of all I don't have a dog in this hunt so what I want to say is not sour grapes or bad wine etc....

I watched Lee play earlier this year in a 3 game series in Sweetwater vs the Metroplex...they did not even come close to a 3 game as Lee won easily in 2 games...but what I did learn that Lee had a couple of possible D1 pithchers and the one person I knew had a grandson that was getting a scholarship to pitch at Ranger Junior College..and he was the number 4 pitcher.

If Most of the series to get to Austin are best of 3 (I know that not all of them aren't and why)...why is it one and out at the State Tourny?????

It may be time (schools out) or someting I don't know..in my humble opinion I think it should be a best of 3 in the semis and then the finals!

Yeah, if Lee would have won, I doubt this post would have been made. I doubt that Harlingen South would have been given the same courtesy. You would have dismissed them as just another weak RGV team. But, Oh my God! the VALLEY TEAM WON!!! so naturally the West Texas team now needs 3 games to prove themselves.

The State Tournament has always been this way, it's nothing new. No need to change the rules now just because a RGV team won.

You are wrong my friend! I could give a rats ass if Lee would have won (or West Texas) as you made a deal that my post came from West Texas.

Have you ever seen my posts about my Alma Mater that happens to be in South Texas (sort of...Coastal Bend)? I have supported both parts of the state in things I have said and posted and the point I was trying to make had nothing to do with the location of a a school in the state.

I know that is the way it has been with the UIL, 1 and done. But some teams have won because of depth and some teams because they have a super ace. The fact of the matter is, South probly would have had a couple of more kids come out and shut Lee down as well. I was just saying I would like to see baseball have a "series" all the way thru the playoffs, don't change the rule for the championship.

I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend......I am headed to SOUTH Texas for a family reuinion!

It has worked all these years. Don't "fix" it.
