Is Bud Selig gonna say the same thing every time? Why not just say with the 4th pick the Pittsburg Pirates select ________________ instead of all that other stuff and can he be any more boring?

17. Texas Rangers: Blake Beavan, RHP, Irving H.S. (Texas), 6-7, 210. Made name for himself last fall when he struck out 11 for Team USA in a shutout of Cuba at the World Junior Championship. Threw perfect game in which he struck out 18 batters this spring, as well as a 15-strikeout performance. Sidearmer allowed only two earned runs in 11 starts. Has fiery attitude on mound – once was ejected for yelling at opposing fans – but scouts like his self-confidence.

I saw an interview with this kid and he looks a lot bigger than 210lbs. He looked more like 240.

Beaven is a sidearmer???? Eeeeek! That usually means arm trouble after about three pro years for starters!!!!

I had high hopes for him, but that little revelation scares me quite a bit.

my roomate has a subscription to orangebloods.com and this was in the warroom message boards, i thought it's pretty funny what beavan says, made me laugh

Beavan, sporting a THIS IS WHY I'M HOT T-shirt for the special occasion, said his buddies often talked about him being a Ranger during trips to the ballpark in Arlington.

"I'm always like, 'Man, put me out there,'" Beavan said. "'I can do just as bad as those guys. I can go out there and give up runs.'"

I'm sure the current Rangers starters will thank the kid for his support. Beavan expects to crack that rotation soon.

"I think I'm gonna move up quick," Beavan said, "and I'm gonna change that ERA around, too."

Beavan, who refers to the Rangers GM as "Ol' JD," said he's ready to sign as soon as the Rangers make the right offer.

"Hopefully they'll come to their senses and realize what they're getting," he said.

Welcome to the bigs, Blake!!!
