as usual.... polls are a joke
some of the teams deserve to be there, some have lost a ton to graduation and are there due to last year's team

ok....i dont think sweetwater will be #12 at the beginning of the season only cuz they graduated alot...but i promise you...by district time they will be really good....that holsey kid (sp?) is a hoss and they have alot of other talent...but right now...i honestly think #12 is a lil too much

in the case of high school football, coaches polls are meaningless. Everyone knows who the top teams are, but do coaches in south texas really know what all the other teams have returning? enough to make an intelligent analysis about who the top 5 teams are in their class? This is why the same teams that finished at the top the year before are there this year--celina, LH, TLE, etc.

Of course, when the actual magazine comes out, it will only be somewhat better--in my opinion, David Barron was a better prognosticator than Carl Padilla, even if he was more subjective. Not that padilla's rankings are bad, given that he continues to rank as the season progresses, but for a pre-season magazine, i preferred the former.

this poll gets worse and worse every year I think...

It seems like they just look at last season's final regular season rankings...sprinkle in playoff results...and bam they have a poll!!!

Jasper received a vote? I know we've got a great coach back, but we've got a lot to prove before receiving any votes.

Yeah, but y'all are famous for having good teams in the past. Right or wrong, that's always good for a vote or two.

Bellville being #13 seems a little high. They do have a couple of very good running backs returning, but must find a new QB and rebuild their offensive line (only 1 returning starter). I do know this Sr. class was very dominating in 7th-9th grades. The upcoming soph's were undefeated last year, but the majority of their top players were at the skill positions. I did see some size from some of the players called up during the playoffs, so the OL might be Ok. Conley, Tallerine or Trahan should battle for the QB position. Conley is a very good field general, but doesn't have the strongest arm. Tallerine has a great arm, but might lack the height (5'8" last year) to be effective. Trahan has excellant size at 6'4" and appeared to have good mobility, but I haven't seen him throw the ball. Anybody with more info on Bellville would be greatly appreciated.

I just rechecked the poll and saw where I got a couple of votes............

Since I haven't played in 25 years I must be in better shape than I thought. Or some coach has a thing for me..............
