Sinton at State
Sinton has made six trips to the UIL state baseball championships. Here is a look at how the Pirages have fared

2003: Sinton won and lost in excruciating fashion at Disch-Falk Field. After rallying twice (including two runs in the seventh), leaving 16 runners stranded, the second-ranked Pirates clinched a 4-3 victory over Canyon on Adrian Alaniz's RBI double in the 10th inning. Sinton (30-5) wasn't as fortunate in the final against No. 1 Lorena, which won 3-2 in eight innings to deny the Pirates a second consecutive title. Jason Adams, who earned the semifinal win with an inning of relief, had limited the Leopards to two hits and two unearned runs through seven innings and had driven in Sinton's second run. But a triple by Adam Horung and a flare single from Jake Mitchell gave Lorena the win in the eighth. Hornung, who won tournament MVP honors, escaped a two-on jam in the eighth to save the game for Josh Blakley (14-0).

2002: Sinton claimed its first state crown since 1989. Tournament MVP Jason Adams (9-2) struck out two and scattered five singles -- two in the infield -- to pitch the Pirates to a 5-0 win over Forney, his third shutout and ninth complete game of the season. Omar Gutierrez's RBI single in the second was all the offense Sinton would need, but the Pirates iced the game in the fifth and sixth on Julian Ruiz's RBI single, a wild pitch and Taylor Edwards' two-run double. That followed a 4-1 win over Wylie in the semis in which a gimpy Gutierrez, nursing a cracked right ankle, had two hits, drove in a run and scored one.

1999: Five errors in the ballgame contributed to Sinton's semifinal exit, a 6-1 loss to Liberty. The Pirates were able to manage but two hits off hard-throwing Liberty starter J.R. Pickens, one being Orlando Gutierrez's two-out RBI single in the fourth.

1989: Sinton became the first Class 3A school to post back-to-back titles since Brenham in 1975-76. Senior ace Jaime Sepeda fell behind 3-0 in the fourth on a couple of hits and an error, but the Pirates scored all of their runs in the bottom of the fourth to beat Pleasant Grove 7-5 in the semis. Two errors, a bases-loaded walk to Juan Buendia, Davey Conn's two-run double, Graig Hesseltine's RBI single and Joe Henry Doria's two-run single helped the Pirates erase the deficit. Sepeda struck out 12 in the 2-1 win over San Augustine for the title, Steve Sepeda threw five innings of one-hit ball and turned it over to Jaime Sepeda two innings of one-hit ball. The Pirates made Jaime Sepeda's RBI single and Hesseltine's sacrifice fly stand for the victory.

1988: The Pirates survived an eight-inning, 5-4 win over Cuero in the Region IV-3A final to earn their first state trip in 13 years. Once in Austin, the Pirates won their first championship by blistering Wylie 7-2 in the semis and blanking La Vega 4-0 for the title. Willie Medlock paced the 10-hit attack in the semis with three RBI, more than enough for junior Jaime Sepeda. In the title game, Sepeda (17-0) tossed five innings in relief of cousin Steve Sepeda, striking out seven to finish the season with 158 whiffs in 111 innings. RBI singles from Tony Martino and Andy Villasana staked Sinton to a 2-0 lead. The Pirates added two more in the sixth on an error off future major leaguer Arthur Rhodes.

1975: The 1-2 pitching tandem of Eladio Castillo and Johnny Garcia propelled the Pirates to their first tournament appearance. Castillo hurled Sinton to a 4-1 victory over Waco Connally in the semifinals. However, in the championship game, a late error led to two Brenham runs as the Cubs defeated Sinton 3-0 for their second state championship.
