I waded out to this little shell-island shaped like a horse shoe, walked about 3/4 of the way around it, went about 20 yards out into the water, threw my first cast on that side and nailed this 18 inch trout... then I heard two REALLLLLY loud splashes, spotted 'em and they were close and HUGE... at my first thought I figured they were either porpoise or shark... but whatever it was drove the fish away so I had to go back... gave the fish to a man fishing from the shore in exchange for his wife... I noticed her baiting her own hook and it was love at first sight...
Back to the splashes... I never saw any fins stickin' from the water and never saw porpoise come up for air in the area, I'd just hear the splash... I'm starting to wishfully think "maybe, just maybe those were tarpon"... I seriously doubt it, but you never know, it could happen...
whatever it was, it was huge... these weren't your regular old game fish, these were shamu-sized splashes I mean grande... and the fish were gone just like that...
