I think we had more than six maybe like 7 or 8 with three titles, which I think you know that! I don't think we missed the playoffs since '88, but I could be wrong!

Well i know they went in 88 and 89, then early 90's once I believe and then 3 times this decade. And also in 1975. And I think every time they've gone they've made it to the title game.

I don't think we made it to all the title games in all of our State Apperances...I think we only made it to four title apperances and winning it 3 times(redundant I know) but that is where we stand. As far as our playoff streak is concerned...I don't think we missed the playoffs since '88, cause I don't know if we made it in '87! Maybe someone else knows but I don't!

I just want to Congratulate the Falfurrias Jersey's on an outstanding season!! I know this isn't how you wanted or expected it to end, but you played your hearts out and that's what matters. You left it all out on the field. This series is one that you hate to see someone lose. It was heartbreaking to see J Garcia and the other Fal seniors devasted over this loss. :(

I was, however very pleased to see both of our young men being respectful to each other after the game!!

Great sportsmanship displayed by two of the premier teams in South Texas!!! A true tribute to the men who coach these youngsters!!  Hats off to Coach K & Coach Salinas!!

Sinton reserves a spot at state

Pirates knock off Jerseys with 2nd straight comeback
By George Vondracek (Contact)

ROBSTOWN -- Another baseball playoff game, another late rally by Sinton High School.

And another trip for the Pirates to the Class 3A state tournament.

Coming from behind for the second consecutive night, the sixth-ranked Pirates pushed across two runs in the bottom of the fifth to beat No. 3 and defending state finalist Falfurrias 3-2, sweeping the best-of-3 Region IV-3A championship series at Fairgrounds Field.

Sinton 3

Falfurrias 2

"It's a long year. You've played 30-plus games and you train to play seven and you find ways to win when you have the opportunity," said coach Gene Kaspryzk, whose 29-5-1 Pirates will be making their sixth appearance at the tournament in Round Rock next week. "It's just that these guys are the kind of kids that are going to battle until the end. We don't get our heads down and when things don't go well we fight through it so I'm real proud of the way we battled."

The two longtime South Texas rivals put on another riveting performance. The schools have met in the playoffs eight times since 1991 and four times in the past seven years, most recently last season. The latest edition was no less engaging.

With Sinton trailing 2-1, Shane Segovia ripped an RBI triple to right-center field to drive in courtesy runner Josh Ring, running for catcher Justin Moreno. After an intentional walk to No. 3 batter Josh Rodriguez and a walk to Anthony Trevino, Andres Alaniz reached on an infield single to score Segovia. Trevino was tagged out when he and Rodriguez were trying to occupy third base.

"During the whole season everything really went easy for us. We never really played from behind," said Segovia, who also tripled and scored in the first inning on Rodriguez's sacrifice fly. "Coach K always told us yesterday when we were behind it was a good thing that some things didn't go for us and we learned how to play from behind and come through. We came through when we had to come through."

The Pirates had rallied with three runs in the seventh inning in Wednesday's 6-5 victory in the series opener. Once Sinton had the lead, pitcher Joseph Alaniz (11-1) had to weather a seventh-inning rally by the 29-8 Jerseys. A hit batsman and Jason Garcia's double put runners in scoring position before Alaniz got Fal pitcher Ruben Cisneros (7-6) to line out to Robert Dunlap at second.

"It's disappointing. This particular senior bunch, they've won 106, 107 games in their career, three straight regional finals, one run away from a state championship last year," Fal coach David Salinas said. "We were knocking on the door again. That was our goal. Our goal was to get to Round Rock again.

"We thought we had a chance again. We thought we had a solid three-man pitching rotation this year," he said. "The good news is we got here. The kids worked their tails off to get here and the rest, it just wasn't meant to be."

It was for the Pirates.

"I always think it's possible for us. I don't want to sound like we're anything special. But we believe, regardless of the talent we have coming up," Kasprzyk said. "You don't always expect it, you don't plan for it, you try to prepare for it and you hope that you can make them good enough every year that they have the opportunity. It's a dream, just like any other time, it's hard to get there. But we start out every year believing we can get there."

The Jerseys, who fell to Texarkana Liberty-Eylau 2-1 in last year's finale, got to Alaniz for two runs in the third to take a 2-1 lead. Garcia and Cisneros smacked one-out singles before Smiley Alegria drove in Garcia with a double to left-center. Mando Cabrera then delivered a run-scoring groundout to give the Jerseys the lead.

Defense helped Cisneros get out of jams in the third and fourth. A lineout double play off the bat of Rodriguez foiled a two-on, no-out threat by the Pirates in the third and Cisneros helped his cause by picking off Andres Alaniz at second in the fourth.

"You never know what to expect. Those guys were one play away from winning a state championship last year. So they're no slouches. That's an incredibly good baseball team over there," Kasprzyk said. "We knew we were going to have to play well and we knew that we'd have to do a lot of things well to win. You don't know if it's going to be two one-run ballgames, you don't know if you're going to have to come from behind and I'd rather not do it that way. But if it's going to happen I'm going to take it this time."
