Great call if it was called by Sinton coach to do a pickoff before the full count pitch. Guess the runner was going on the pitch but not sure why u try and steal 3rd if it had been a walk.

Pirates score three in 7th to take game, series lead

ROBSTOWN -- It took eight innings and nearly three hours to decide last year's Region IV-3A championship series opener between longtime South Texas rivals Sinton and Falfurrias.

Wednesday night's first game of the rematch was just as thrilling, only this time the Pirates prevailed.

Sinton (28-5-1 overall) scored three runs in the seventh inning to rally for a 6-5 victory in front of 3,000 rowdy fans at Fairgrounds Field. Game 2 is scheduled for tonight back in Robstown, with a third set to be played there Saturday, if needed.

The winner earns a spot in next week's state semifinals Wednesday at The Dell Diamond in Round Rock. Falfurrias made it to the championship game last season, losing to Texarkana Liberty-Eylau 2-1 after taking out Abilene Wylie 5-2 to advance.

On Wednesday, the Pirates trailed 4-3 when Robert Dunlap and Shane Segovia walked with one out in the top of the seventh. Josh Rodriguez then smashed a double to left-center field, scoring both Dunlap and Segovia to give Sinton its first lead since the first inning.

Anthony Trevino added an RBI single later in the inning to put Sinton in front 6-4, a run the Pirates ended up needing.

Mando Cabrera was hit by a pitch and Eric Silvas walked for Falfurrias (28-7) in the bottom of the seventh. Courtesy runner Ryan Regalado, in for Cabrera, and pinch runner Michael Longoria, in for Silvas, both moved into scoring position on Mario Ramirez's grounder to first.

Regalado scored when Chris Lopez hit into a fielder's choice, bringing the Jerseys to within 6-5. The game ended when Rodriguez, Sinton's ace, threw out Longoria at third on a steal.

Dunlap walked to open the game and ended up at second when Jason Garcia's first offering to Segovia hit several feet in front of the plate. Cabrera blocked the ball, but the catcher couldn't get to it in time for a throw to second.

After walking Segovia, another wild pitch allowed both runners to move into scoring position. Rodriguez followed with a sacrifice fly to right field that scored Dunlap for the game's first run.

With Segovia at third, Trevino laced a base hit up the middle to give the Pirates a 2-0 lead.

Rodriguez looked sharp against Garcia in the bottom of the first, freezing the Falfurrias leadoff hitter on a called third strike. He gave up a base to Ruben Cisneros, but Smiley Alegria popped up to first for the second out.

Cabrera then reached first after being hit by the first pitch from Rodriguez and was replaced by courtesy runner Regalado. The inning ended when the Pirates forced Cisneros out at third on a fielder's choice by Silvas.

The hit up the middle that was snag by Sintons 2b and did a akward throw to 2nd to get the runner over running 2nd base. otherwise it would had been bases loaded with no outs. Then next inning Fal SS cant come up with the ball cleanly which lead to a run in that inning for Sinton to make it Fal 4 Sinton 3.

Great game could have gone either way. Should be another close game tonight
