Texas 5-4 win over Nebraska sends A&M to the Championship game of the Big XII Tournament tomorrow to face either Baylor or Oklahoma.

Let the A&M-UT "lovefest" that this is certain to turn into begin!

Big 12 Tournament is a big joke anyway

and that goes for all sports, basketball and softball

It's all about money

Winning the Big 12 doesn't mean much anymore

Sure hope a format like this doesnt carry over to high school.

As long as OU loses, I'll be fine.

Ditto...But then again, the CWS championship is where it counts in the end. We've won the CWS championship and not won our conference. We are still ok!

...and we are still counting!!!

Any reason as to why the Big XII changed the format?

Good question. But I don't have a clue right of hand.

Not too sure if it was the coaches decision or the Big 12's decision.

I know the ACC is doing the same format.

CHAMPIONSHIP FORMAT

The Big 12 announced the implementation of a two-division, pool play format for the championship in 2006. Previously, the event was conducted as a double-elimination tournament. Under the new format, as approved by the conference's head coaches, each of the eight teams competing is guaranteed a minimum of three games.

Results from the league's 27-game round-robin conference schedule will determine the eight seeds for the Championship. Seeds 2, 3, 6 and 7 will compete in pool play on one side of the bracket, while seeds 1, 4, 5 and 8 will play in the other. The two teams with the best record within their bracket will advance to the Championship game, with the winner earning the Big 12's automatic berth into the NCAA Championship. Head-to-head competition will break ties within each bracket. In the event of more than two teams being tied for the top spot within a bracket, the highest seeded team will advance to Sunday's winner-take-all Championship game.

Strange decision. It created a situation like today where you had several teams playing (UT, Mizzou,oSu,) that had no chance to reach the final. Why take the risk of using up pitching in a meaningless game?

On that note, I noticed UT pitched Alaniz today.(if only for 3 innings) Not one to question a hall-of-fame coach, but that does seem kind of strange to use him in that situation.

Another good thing for UT is that they will be invited to the playoffs anyway and get the extra rest for their pitcher and players.
