Jasper scored 6 runs in the bottom of the first before LH even recorded an out. They switched pitchers but Jasper is still batting in the bottom of the 1st.

18-1 Jasper in the 5th. Looks like Jasper vs. Bridge City/Carthage for the right to Austin.

Jasper coach put the kid in that got hurt earlier this year for 1 pitch in the 5th. I heard that there was no way the pitch could be hit. But at least he got to take the field at home for one more play.

Class move by the Jasper coach!

Hudson...you guys have nothing to hang you heads about. Regardless of the record and the result of this game, you definitely had a successful run this season. You could have folded after a (3-11-2) rough start in the first half of the season, but you guys came together and made a heck of a run. That in itself is the result that Hudson is known for...the competitiveness of Hudson...year in and year out. An impressive 19-6-0 record throughout the rest of the season, with two (close) losses to #1 Carthage in district.

Hudson runs out of magic
Hornets swept out of playoffs with 18-1 setback to Jasper

JASPER — The team that had no business playing so far into May finally ran out of magic.

Hudson's Hornets, a team that spent the past two months surpassing all expectations and thrilling their fans with improbable comebacks, finally bowed out of the post-season Friday in Jasper.

Jasper, 3-1 winners of Thursday's 10-inning affair in Lufkin, exploded for 10 runs in the first inning and never took their paws off the gas, cruising to an 18-1 elimination win in regional semifinal action.

After scoring their lone run in the top of the first inning on a double steal executed by Hunter Rowe and Jeremy Murphy, the Hornets watched helplessly as the Bulldogs sent 13 batters to the plate in the bottom half of the inning. Six runs scored before Hudson could record a single out; and the Bulldogs would score in every inning afterward.

Jasper's Chantz Pryor drove in four runs with a pair of singles; Travis Reagan added a three-run homer; and Justin Parsons drove in three more with a pair of doubles and a triple. The Bulldogs finished the five-inning affair with 16 hits, six of them for extra bases.

Hudson managed just three hits, two of those singles from Jeremy Murphy. Kyle King, subbing for the injured Daniel Musick, also singled.

If Jasper's 10-run first inning wasn't enough of a hint that it would not be Hudson's day, there were several other indications throughout the game. No less than six line drives off Hornet bats landed within two feet on the wrong side of the foul lines — shots that may have gone for extra bases had they stayed fair. Jasper, on the other hand, bounced seven of their 10 singles through holes in the Hornet infield.

Hope for the Hudson faithful lies in the fact that only four Hornets played their final games as seniors: Nick Rhodes, Hunter Rowe, Wayne Ramsey and Aaron Jarvis.

The Hornets finish the season at 22-17-2. It's the third time in three years that Hudson has made it to the regional semifinals.

Jasper awaits the winner of the Carthage/Bridge City series.

Yes...Jasper took both match ups, they were close though. 3-2 in Jasper and 10-8 in BC. Both ball clubs are ranked in the top ten 7th & 9th respectively.
