Forget all you know about CrossCountry, the norm did not happen today for 21-3A Jr Hi meet! There was a giant rainstorm to the West of Clairborne West Park of IH-10. The Coaches decide to run the boys and the girls in the same race to be able to get the race in before the storm came in. The course is the best in Texas for novelty. The kids start out running down a wide ditch, run a good woods, run a cypress baygall, them run a levee between a pond with live alligators and Cow Bayou. At that point the tired runners run across an old wooden bridge over Cow Bayou and end up finishing on the other side of the alligator pond.
Well the Bridge City girls and boys totally dominated the entire meet. There was one exception a boy from Anahuac who placed third behind two BC boys; however, he was bearly able to beat "Nikita" a BC girl who many say will be in the Olympics someday. Nikita place four in the boys 21-3A JR. HI. District- or first in the girls category; however you choose to look at it..Now the question arises, as the BC girls team poured across the finish line ahead of a lot of the boys from other school, "Could the BC girls CrossCountry have won the 21-3A Boys meet, if BC had chosen not to enter their quite superior Boys team?" The BC boys team poured across the finish line almost in a bunch, breaking many of their on personal best times. On the other hand, with Nikita leading the pack, the BC girls poured across the finish line, nearly all setting their best personal times, while leaving a large contingency of the boys behind from other schools. Of course the girls had a little more incentive in this one-time very unusual C-C situation.
Congratulations to Coach Knight and Miller. When this bunch of 7th and 8th graders join in with the High School team, which is primarily 9th and 10th graders: currently ranked #3 in the polls for 3A; they are going to be tough to beat- be it boys or girls or both!
I will predict that Clairborne West Park will become the special course that every Texas and Louisiana team will want to compete at, at least once during the years to come.
