OKLAHOMA CITY -- Fresh off of a weekend sweep of Texas A&M and its second straight Big 12 regular season baseball title, Texas made another sweep on Tuesday. This time, it was the league's postseason awards. In a vote of conference's head coaches, the Longhorns claimed the Big 12 Player of the Year (OF Kyle Russell), Pitcher of the Year (Adrian Alaniz) and co-Coach of the Year (Augie Garrido).

All totaled, Texas' Big 12 Championship squad was rewarded with 10 players earning All-Big 12 recognition. Cathcer Preston Clark, third baseman Bradley Suttle and first baseman Chance Wheeless joined Russell and Alaniz as five Longhorns claimed first-team All-Big 12 honors. Pitchers Randy Boone and James Russell earned second-team honors while outfielder Jordan Danks, designated hitter Russell Moldenhauer and second baseman Travis Tucker were tabbed honorable mention All-Big 12.

Garrido led Texas to a record of 42-14 (21-6 Big 12) and its fourth Big 12 regular season title, second in a row, in his 11th season at Texas. The 21 wins are a Big 12 regular season record and UT joins Texas A&M (1998-99) as just the second team in league history to post back-to-back regular season championships. This marks Garrido's second straight Big 12 Coach of the Year honor and third overall (2002, 2006, 2007).

Russell, a sophomore, leads the nation and Big 12 in home runs with a UT record 27 entering the Big 12 tournament this week. He is hitting .348 with a team high 68 RBI and 60 runs scored. Russell was selected as one of 16 semifinalists for the Dick Howser Trophy, honoring the top player in college baseball, by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.

Alaniz, a junior, is 12-2 with an ERA of 2.47. He was twice named Big 12 Pitcher of the Week and shares the team lead with 83 strikeouts. Alaniz was selected as one of 10 semifinalists for the Roger Clemens Award, honoring the top pitcher in college baseball, by the Greater Houston Baseball Association.

The Horns kick off play in the Big 12 Baseball Championship on Wednesday, May 23 when they face Kansas State at 1 p.m.
