J2K this looks pretty good. I would place Commerce and Forney higher as they will be very competitive again this season. They always seem to find and develop new talent. La Grange will be a young team, having lost so many seniors. The offense will be as good or better this year. The defense is the unknown, but they have some excellent new players who may surpise everyone. I would probably put the Leps at about 15th or 16 for now. We should know how good this team is early in the season as they play Yoakum, Sealy and Gonzales first three games. All are real good teams this season.

J2K, how can you put out a top 20 list without including Sweetwater?

I couldnt decide whether to go with Ballinger or Sweetwater. I know it's kind of an upset pick, but I went with Ballinger.

J2K, where is Barbers Hill at? Other than Celina being a little high, it looks pretty solid.

Barbers Hill has a bad habit of choking in area. As for Celina, they've won 57 straight games(many against 3a teams)and they've won 4 straight state championships. I dont think they're gonna lay down and die just b/c they've added an extra A. I look for'em to go deep into the playoffs.

What happened to the Gatesville Hornets? Must assume you do not feel they are worthy to be in the top 20. And, must agree with the other poster that Burnet should have been in there.

No, I do not feel that Gatesvile is a top 20 team. Nor, do I feel that Burnet is a top 20 team.

Hey, where is Carthage? They will be a power house this year. In Texas Football they where ranked #10. So where are they???

I don't think that Bandera should be on anybody's top 20 list. They won't be as good as they were the past 2 years.

Carthage a powerhouse?? Granted they have a lot back and the drop to 3A helps but DCTF has them WAY overrated...2-8 teams in 4A don't become powers in 3A....I see Carthage as a playoff team but I only look for them to go a round or two...

Bandera may not be as strong....BUT moving to Division 2 may help them make a longer postseason run...which is why I had em in my top 20 also...I think the same reasoning may be behind J2K's ranking of them..

They will probably make it 3 or 4 rounds deep but I think that they will get beat really bad when they do.

I think the main reason why Celina won all those games was because of their awesome coach G.A. Moore well since hes down the road from Celina at Pilot Point i think their streak will end and i dont think they should be ranked so high with a new coach and with 24 letterman lost but their d-fense is established they only problem is their offense with 3 returning starters but i wouldnt rank Celina in the top 20

Ive watched Celina play many times during "the streak", and I assure you, they'll be reloaded by august. Im sure the streak will end this season, but they'll make some noise, and I expect them to win the district and go a few rounds deep. As for GA Moore, yes, he was a big factor in their success. But, he was not the only component. The new HC, Butch Ford, has been Moore's protege` for his entire tenure at Celina. So, Im sure he'll pick up right where GA left off. I look for a 11-1 or 10-2 season from the Bobcats. Anything less than 2 rounds or more than 3 rounds deep will suprise me.

ok, i see where your coming from now i thought he was just a regular old coach from another town but i didnt know the new HC has been with GA alright well yeah i can understand why you would rank them so high cause of the HC and he knows who the players are and who is main ones are, and also how to run a good offense

J2K, Surely there is more to your reasoning for not ranking Barbers Hill other than "choking" at area? You and Matthew have made mention about Barbers Hill not advancing further in the playoffs as a reason why BH was not given higher consideration. That is fine if your logic is consistant with your picks. But after looking at your top ten, I see Atlanta is at number 5. Comparing the playoff records of both BH and Atlanta for the past 3 seasons, BH has posted a 4-3 mark while Atlanta has posted 3-3 mark. Does the "choke" factor not figure into the Rabbits equation? And before you answer, of course I'm not questioning that Atlanta desereves consideration as a top 25 team. But since you brought up choking in the playoffs ....

Jacket2000

Well, to tell ya the truth, I just felt that the 20 I picked were better than Barbers Hill. The choke factor was part of it, but all in all I just think that the other 20 are better.

BH_146,
I don't know that much about Barbers Hill, but I wouldn't put to much stock in his top 20.He also said Burnet wasn't a top 20 team and they should have been a no-brainer.So maybe Burnet and Barbers Hill will go out and show what they are capable of this fall. Then we will see.

To be honest you are pretty accurate...Atlanta has been choking in the playoffs as well....maybe I get soured on BH because of all the 10-0 regular seasons....LOL You make a good point..the last few years the Rabbs haven't been great in the postseason..of course last year was the only year they went 10-0...I know in 2000 they were 6-4 so a first round loss didn't appear to be a choke...maybe it is my region 2 bias kickin in..j/k....LOL

J2K and Matthew, picking a top 20 at this stage is only a matter of guess work based on nothing but numbers and feelings. I just disagree with not giving BH higher consideration because of the perception that they under achieve in the post season. I believe the more times you are in the playoffs, the more success you will experience in the long run, i.e. Newton. And BH appears to have established a winning tradition in recent years. Odds tend to be on the side of the team who consistently makes the playoffs.
