State Farm Lone Star Showdown update between Horns and Aggies - May 18 - 20

As most of you know the score is now UT 9.5 A&M 8.5 with just the point in baseball left this weekend to be decided by who wins two out of three. UT wins outright if it gets the point and Aggies can tie it for the year if they get the point but UT retains the cup since they had it last year.

In the first game tonight played at College Station the Final was Texas 6 A&M 4 in well played hard fought game. A&M had a 4 to 1 run but UT slowly caught up with them and tied it up. Then in top of 7th UT scored two runs and held on to win the game.

The next two games tomorrow (Saturday) and day after tomorrow (Sunday) are in Austin and UT needs to just win one of the two to cinch the point.

I think the Big 12 Conference Championship is at stake too.

In game two after four innings it is A&M 2 UT 1. The game is in Austin. UT won game one last night in College Station.

Top of fifth three up three down. UT is coming to bat at the bottom of the fifth now.

Sinton's Adrian Alaniz was pitching for UT but he has been replaced. He has been struggling lately. Hopefully he will come out of it soon.

UT scores a run and the game is tied at 2 all.

Fifth inning is over and the Aggies come to bat at top of the sixth. The game is tied 2 to 2.

In top of the sixth Aggies have one out but a runner is on first base.

UT gets an out at second on a fielder's choice. It is now two outs with and Aggie runner on first base.

Aggie runner at first tries to steal second and gets caught out. We now go to the bottom of the sixth inning with UT batting.

Bottom of sixth UT pitcher is batting and gets to first with no outs.

Aggies get two outs on a double play.

The Aggies get the third out. After six innings it is still tied at 2 to 2.

This is an even fought game with good pitching and defense. Both teams have also had 7 hits and none of them have had any errors.

UT gets last out. Bottom of the 7th with UT batting.

UT has one out but due to an error by the Aggies they have runners on first and second base now.

Besides the game and the State Farm Lone Star Cup point at stake there is also the Big 12 championship and series win for the Horns tonight.

UT gets a run in the bottom of the eighth. The score is now UT 3 A&M 2. There are two outs.

Out No. 2. Top of the ninth with the score UT 3 A&M 2. UT is three outs away from winning the game. It has been close and tough. UT has outplayed the Aggies since the fourth inning but has missed opportunities because they should have more runs. UT has out hit the Aggies 11 to 8 so far but what has hurt the Aggies were two errors at the wrong time and UT has played error free ball so far.

Aggies will come out batting hard this inning I am sure and I still wouldn't be surprised if the game goes into extra innings. We will see.

Two outs. UT is one out away from winning the game.

Third out. UT wins 3 to 2. With this win we cinch the series and the State Farm Lone Star cup point and I think the Big 12 Championship. There is still one more game tomorrow but UT has cinched the series with two wins.

UT also wins the overall State Farm Lone Star Cup for 2006-07 with a 10.5 to 8.5 score.

Tonight's game and the game last night between these two teams were great games and both teams played very good. UT had to stuggle and fight to come back to win these games against a very determined Aggie team. Congratulations to both teams on two well played games.

Remember even though not as much is at stake there is still a third game to be played tomorrow at 2 P.M. in Austin but I will be watching the Spurs play the Jazz.

UT won the third game in Austin 9 to 1.
