Anyone know anything about Bellville? I heard they lost two too La Grange.

bellville has two lefties that don't throw hard at all but hit spots and use offspeed well (changeup) and don't have a powerful lineup but their lineup will put the ball in play and make you get them out...

short stop is small but is extremely active and is a very tough out..

Two young pitchers (freshman & Soph) that have been improving with every game.

Totally different Bellville team since that Wharton tournament. They have won 6 in a row, and 13 of their last 15 with 2 losses coming to La Grange 1-0 and 3-0.

Also, Bellville has never played well in that tourney for some reason, even when we were ranked and had some of our best teams.

Should be in for a good series. Bellville has really stepped it up lately. Anybody got the scoop on Jasper.

Bellville has some good veteran players, and some very young pitchers that have come a long way since the wharton game. Bellville lost to La Grange 3-0, and 1-0 in 8 that sould have been over in the 7th, but that it water under the bridge and this sould be a good series. Is not Jasper in the top 10?

Yes, the only "poll" that really counts is what happens on the field. That is why we play the games. :)

Heck, in the preseason polls, I think some folks had Jasper picked not to even make it out of its 8 team district. For sure, they were not picked to win the district outright over the likes of Bridge City and Silsbee.

its a tradition to lose in the wharton tourny.

Those tournaments can be very misleading. A team with a deep pitching staff will usually do better in a tournament, as opposed to a team with a couple of good quality starters. It is also early in the season and some of the pitchers haven't built their arm up to complete a full game. I have also seen Bellville not take those tournaments too seriously, sometimes saving their ace for an upcoming game. Their coach will usually bring up JV pitchers to see how they will do against varsity hitters.

Correct. Any team still in the playoffs is very good. Period. Any team that thinks otherwise is going to get their ticket home stamped.

DONT THROW HARD AT ALL????

IM NOT SURE WHAT U CALL HARD, BUT BELLVILLE HAS SEVERAL PITCHERS THAT CAN TOUCH THE MID 80'S.....JOE TALLERINE BEING ONE OF THEM. IF JOE WILL BE ABLE TO KEEP THE BALL DOWN AND AWAY BELLVILLE WILL TAKE THE 1ST GAME.

ALSO LOOK FOR THE SOPH. GARRETT HUEBNER TO GET SOME RELIEF APPERANCES..MAYBE EVEN START THE 3RD GAME IF IT COMES TO IT...BUT GARRETT HAS ONE OF THE BEST CURVEBALLS I HAVE SEEN.

ARE YOU KIDDING ME? I PERSONALLY faced both lefties and i didn't think even one of them were close to 80 at all...i'll give them mid-70s but your crazy if you tell me that the two lefties throw anywhere near as hard as kurt leer or nathan neiser...they hardly top mid-80s....your high or somethin.

This is very true. They will steal any base (even home) at any moment. Jasper's speed (Hart and Bronson) puts a lot of pressure on defense's.

Bellville's pitching staff throws some serious cheese when compared to the Brahmas's staff of a year ago. Think these guys top out at 80. Jasper usually has guys that can throw it pretty good. When they had Yeates, Parker, Alvis and the like. They had 3 guys 85 plus that year. Bellville will play hard, Jasper best be ready.

I HAVE SEEN BOTH TEAMS PLAY. THE TWO BELLVILLE PITCHERS NO WAY THROW IN THE 80'S, VERY LOW 70'S AT BEST. BELLVILLE LACKS CONSISTENT OFFENSE AND HAS A LACK OF POWER. JASPER WILL HAVE TOO MUCH SPEED ON THE BASES FOR BELLVILLE AND THEY DO HAVE A CONSISTENT OFFENSE THAT WILL SCORE RUNS. JASPER WILL WIN THIS IN 2 GAMES WITHOUT A DOUBT.

I listened to that game on the radio. Was amazing..interestingly he lost the game 1-0 in 10 innings. I believe he had 4 strikeouts in 2 different innings in that game.

If not, and if you want to listen, try the Jasper station:

http://news.mywebpal.com/index.cfm?pnpid=974

Note, for some of us, Media Player does not work for KJAS. I was finally able to get it with RealPlayer.

Else, if no updates on the DownLow, surely there will be updates on the SE Tx site:

http://www.**********.com/forum/index.php?board=5.0

Sorry, no updates from me. I plan to be at the games. :)

pretty bold posts for only having 5 of them.....

bellville played a top 20 team last weekend that came out a very very strong district, and won in 2 games if that means anything

just because they played a team that was seeded third in their district does not mean they are pushovers

Haven't heard but I would guess T.Reagan, he the ace of the staff, then I would guess Parsons will be in relief or even game two starter...I look for a good series that goes 3 games. My opinion is whichever team that has the most depth will win the series.

I am from La Grange and have seen a # of District games, I wolud agree our District overall was weak. Our District has not been very good since the Homer Bailey years.La Grange hitting and defense very weak compared to years earlier. Most teams in our District had the same problems. I will pick Jasper to win series in 2 games, as far as the State Champion I will pick Carthage. I think everyone else is playing for runnerup. Just an opinion.

Listened to the game last night on the radio and the announcer was impressed with Tallerine's fastball when he really let it loose. His curve is what kept Jasper off balance for the most part.

Cerny did a masterful job last night, keeping Tallerine in was gutsy!

I'm not sure what the big deal about how fast a pitcher can throw the ball. The radar gun is a great tool as far as measuring speed or if a pitcher is losing his velocity, but it really doesn't measure the quality of a pitcher. Hitting their spots and changing speeds can give a pitcher more success than just throwing hard.

Brad Lidge throws in upper nineties and has one of the best sliders in game, but only spots he seems to hit are the ground in front of plate or the opposing players bat.

My recent history is more softball, but same concept.
Cat Ostermann, one of best softball pitchers of all time, sometimes only threw 4-5 fastballs the entire game. Used drop, curve, rise and change up.

Bull19, how fast have you hit on the radar gun? You could really throw some HEAT!!

HARD ENOUGH TO THROW QUALITY STRIKES, KEEP HITTERS OFF BALANCE, GET OUTS, AND WIN BALL GAMES. ;)

Hope giddings softball girls do well also.
I'll be at regional Lady Aggie softball game against Sam Houston this afternoon, but can't stay for the Lady Buffs game later in Bryan.

This has been a very good informative thread on this series between Bellville & Jasper. I have been impressed with the posters from Bellville & Jasper, those guys have stuck to the game info, shown each other mutual respect.

As far as Jasper was concerned he may as well have been throwing at 110. :D

But no, I would guess that he was throwing more than the low 70's. Maybe high 70's ? Even low 80's? It does not matter. He is a winner.

My point exactly, why are people so worried about how fast he was throwing? Is it more important to throw hard than win the game?

PS: You guys from Jasper are my kind of posters, very informative without the other nonsense. If Jasper advances, I will be pulling for them.

I think some extraneous comments irrelevant to the game were deleted by the management. ;)

Good luck to both teams! Wish I could attend, but I will be going out of town. Sounds like a great series between 2 teams that get lots of support from their fans. I was hoping to meet JasperDog94, J_dog and AstrosDawg07.
