Looking at the Final Top 20 lists you could go on and on about what could of and what should of happened. I think that there are two kinds of teams in the State.

First, there are the teams that just have so much damn talent that the only things that stop them from winning it all is their head, off field activities, or injuries. Examples - Everman and Burnet.

Secondly, there are the teams of Destiny. Example - Bandera.

For whatever reason absolutely everything went their way. Even the downfalls and the negatives became positives. A player would get injured and the replacement would be better. Bounces went our way, hits went our way, different sections of the offense - defense - and special teams would all have big games at just the right time when it was needed. Being the UnderDawg became what we wanted to be. We won as an underDawg.

I think the biggest asset Bandera had was the maturity level these kids had. Every game they became more and more sure of themselves. Their calmness drove the parents crazy.

Comments like " What did the Coach tell you at Half time", with answer's like " Nothing, we knew what we had to do" were mind bogling.

The true testament to their confidence came when Bandera played Midland in the Championship. The first play Midland ran was a 70 yard touchdown. If a team was gonna loose the Mojo it was then.

But it didn't even faze the defense. They just viewed it as another bad play on their part adjusted and moved on. That mistake became our Mojo.

To the Boys of Bandera - The 2002 State Champion.

Thanks. From the big kids in Bandera.
