The brackets currently look like this:

Western Conference
#5 Utah Jazz (H/C) vs #8 Golden State Warriors
#2 Phoenix Suns (H/C) vs #3 San Antonio Spurs

Minor League Thump Thump
#1 Detroit Pistons vs #5 Chicago Bulls
#2 Cleveland Cavaliers vs #6 New Jersey Nets

If the league re-seeded after the 1st round, it would look like this:

Western Conference
#2 Phoenix Suns (H/C) vs #8 Golden State Warriors
#3 San Antonio Spurs (H/C)vs #5 Utah Jazz

Minor League Thump Thump
#1 Detroit Pistons (H/C) vs #6 New Jersey Nets
#2 Cleveland Cavaliers (H/C) vs #5 Chicago Bulls

nope...why would you punish an 8 seed after winning the first round against a 1 seed?

No, but not because it's tradition!

Would you rather see the two best remaining teams play in the conference semis or the conference finals?

No need to change it.

I wouldn't change up the NCAA tourney though. I think the 4 rounds of the tourney before the Final Four does a fair job of determining the best team in each bracket...

Every other major professional sport does it...even hockey...teams with the best record deserve the easiest path! Sure, Golden State knocked off Dallas, but they lost 40 games in the season! Reseeding makes the regular season more important, and I don't think that's a bad thing.

Oh, no! Not the every other sport is doing it argument! I don't care what the NHL does! If San Antonio or Phoenix wanted an "easier" path they should have won enough games to be the 1 seed!

Technically? The 1 seed is sitting on their butts at home!

So the best team left in the playoffs should have the hardest road to the finals? Doesn't seem right to me.

I say seed the teams based on the regular season and let the teams earn it from there on out.

  "Best" during the season doesn't necessarily = best during the playoffs. It's all about winning when it truly counts.
