View Full Version : Golden State-Dallas Game 6!

I wonder which Mavs team is going to show up tonight? The one that was lights out to begin and end Game 5 or the one that showed up for Game 3 of this series.

I'll pick the Warriors just because I enjoy their style of play. They're a more athletic version of what Don Nelson attempted to put together in Dallas.

why is it all the Dallas teams lack in defense? The Cowboys defense gave up the most points the last 6 games of the season. The Rangers entire rotation and bullpen suck, the Stars were brillant at times in the playoffs defensively but not physical enough and the Mavs still cant play defense.

too bad the regular season doesnt mean jack crap right now. And how many points did they give up on average to Phoenix this year?

Emerson1
05-03-2007, 08:14 PM
GS would be getting just as many points against any other team in the playoffs right now. They averaged over 100 in the regular season I think

Your talking about two teams that are match up nightmares for ANY team..does not mean Dallas is not good on defense

Denver averaged 105 in the regular season but put up around 90 vs SA.
.
Denver would have given Dallas and Phoenix fits. Well ok, maybe they would have stretched the Suns to 6 and the Mavs would have taken it in 5.:nerd: They would have beaten Houston, though.:D

I'm a fan of the Big German, but the way he's begun this game is why he disappoints me. He should be driving to the hole, but instead he's jacking 3's and giving the Warriors long rebounds that are giving them fast break opportunities. When is he going to learn?

Well I guess I don't really feel so bad about my team getting beat like a red-headed stepchild by Phoenix. We only lasted one less day than the big boys of the conference this season!

There will be heads rolling in Dallas this off season. I expect some major major changes after this embarrassment in the first round.

you are right...dallas' season sucked....haha

i forgot how young you are. You arent old enough to remember much about those 90's teams that dallas had. That was painful to watch. Says alot about Dallas now...no championship is a failure...

This is probably the greates feat in Don Nelsons career and he was a part of some huge games as a player and a coach. Hes gonna drink a lot of beers tonight. Cuban is going to cry. I cant wait to here what he has to say

They need to get someone the players will actually listen to during the game. No reason to take 30 3 point shots when they have no inside game to stop howard and dirk

It doesn't mean squat how you play in the regular season if you can't even get past the first round. Especially playing the #8 seed. Stick a fork in the mavs, they're done....:D

Actually I'll head the Trade Dirk Campaign.

Now everyone will see what GS did to him and they'll do the same to him next year. The Mavs need a leader on the court and Dirk is not a guy I'd want on my team, especially after what he said before game 4 about the season being over if they lost that game.

I'm sure Cuban will spread the blame to everyone in the organization for this one. As crazy as that whack job is, it wouldn't surprise me to see him axe his head coach on a whim.

You might could consider this an overreaction since the series just ended, but is Dirk mentally tough enough to recover from this series? As much as I like him, I honestly don't know where he goes from here. He made the history books in the worst way possible tonight.

Hey Spurs Fans, don't knock the Mavs. They played an awesome team who was built to "one up" them. Don't forget what happened last year when Avery led Dallas to victory over the Spurs. That's what Nellie did to Dallas. It sucked then and now it sucks for the Mavs Fans. They are still a Texas team who won 67 games(a great feat). Show them some respect please. They deserve it.:)

I actually thought the Mavs had a good chance of winning it all this year. I sure didn't think GS would beat them by 26 pts in game six. I feel bad for Avery, he did so well all season and then to be embarrassed by a first round lost to #8 seeded Golden State.

Sorry about the loss Mavericks. I thought you guys would pull out the series but dangit that was a buzz-saw you all played tonight. Only a very rare team could have withstood that onslaught.:(

I like Dirk too as a player, but he is not a team leader like he needs to be.

I think a lot of people asked about how he would respond in the playoffs after the finals last year, well here is our answer.

He can do one of two things...

Be a TRUE leader next year and play HUNGRY, or do what he has been doing

Edit, side note: One other thing, I know this is a sports forum and that is what we all post about in here. Having your favorite team lose in the first round hurts. But I learned last year that losing a playoff game or series is not the worst thing that can happen in life after losing my mom last November.

Very surprising and disappointing effort by the Mavs. GS had two top players hurt and not up to full strengh and everything that could go right and they get whipped anyway.

this is what happens when you build a team on talent
and forget toughness

the mavs will get some rest now huh

If I was Dirk-Cuban-Johnson

a LONG trip would be in my plans

Cuban is a trip
he is the reason so many hate the Mavs

Money can by a lot of things
but not

Amazing how this team showed very little mental toughness.

I'm really speechless right now. I've got to let this sink in before I think about what they need to do.

I will say this, they have got to get some type of low post offense. I don't know where it comes from, but that is one, if not their biggest, weakness. They are not as bad as they used to be but they are still primarily a jump shooting team.

There were several key reasons that Dallas went out in the first round.

1. Clinched best record and then kind of lost their intensity. Dallas has a very deep team that is custom made for a long grueling season. No major injuries like some of the other top teams.
2. Lack of a low post scorer. In the playoffs, teams need to be able to play a 1/2 court possession type game. Yes, GS doesn't but Dallas needed to make the Warriors pay by going to the basket.
3. The West was loaded with great teams. Even though Dallas had the best record, there were several outstanding teams in the West. Key injuries and the lack of depth kept these teams from having better season records. I think that Dallas got a false impression that they were head and shoulders above these teams.
4. Bad luck of the draw. Dallas starts out playing a team that can play small ball better than they do. GS matches up better than any other team and has given Dallas fits over the last couple of seasons. Dallas would still be playing if they faced Denver, LA or the Clippers. Dallas should of played their starters vs GS when their was still playoff implications. I'm not saying they would of won, but I thought it was the right thing to do. I think Avery now wishes he could have that game back.
5. Golden State- A 8th place team that barely made the playoffs and with nothing to lose. (ask Bellville fans about a 2002 3rd place Bandera football team that barely made the playoffs). These teams are just happy to be there and tend to play with no pressure. Also, Don Nelson knows Dallas better than any other coach.
6. Fans- Once GS stole game 1, the Warrior fans were unbelievable. They hadn't seen a playoff game in over a decade and they made their voices heard. In defense of the Dallas fans, they had just been to the finals and thse first round games just don't compare to the importance of a championship series.

I think Dallas will be a very hungry team next season. Much like the NFL Colts, they have the talent to win it all. They will learn that having the best record doesn't mean a thing, unless you get the ring. Look for Dallas to add that low post game and I predict 2008 may be their year.
