Only humans can be athletes. As far as the jockeys yes they are athletes like bowlers, golfers, and exotic dancers.

Actually anyone who is the size of those jockeys and controlling a high strung 1200-1300 lb. pile of muscle is an athlete in my oppinion.

Horse racing, or any other kind of racing. (Not that I am a big fan of NASCAR or anything). But, it does take skill and little strategy.
