Wondering if anyone knows how many kids from the 1983 Daingerfield state championship team went to play college ball (I know two went to the NFL), and if so, how many of those were Division 1A schools?

They had this topic on the texashsfootball 3a message board section but all of the info was lost when the site was hacked...

I believe there were a lot of 'em, I think anyway...

I'd say if not the best 3A team ever, they had the best defense ever...

The most talented 3A football team that I have ever seen. Their statistics are mind boggling.

They are suppose to honor the 1983 team tonight at the Dainerfield homecomeing. It has been 20 years since that team and people around Faingerfield still talk about it as if it as yesterday. But they are suppose to have a lot of the players at the game tonight.

That is the best team in 3A history. Only gave of 8 points the entire season and I believe 2 points came on a bad snap over the punters head that resulted in a safety

I think that the only game that was even close was against a 4a semifinalist (carthage I think). They were not scored on in the playoffs. Beat Sweeney in the finals 42-0 and had two touchdowns called back. They were playing their offensive lineman in the backfield in the second half.

I was in 8th grade at Post High School and watched Daingerfield beat Post 42-0 in the semi-finals. Absolute domination. Post had a two-time 1st string all-state tailback named Milton Williams who played college ball at San Angelo, and they completely shut him down. You had to see this to believe it, but before the game one of the Daingerfield LINEMEN did an aerial (cartwheel w/out touching your hands down) in full pads. I believe that, by the end of the year, that team could have beaten any high school team, in any classification, in Texas.

Corby...I saw the same lineman do the same thing in the state final game against Sweeny. He went on to LSU I believe. By the way, I was on the Ballinger team that got beat by the team with Milton Williams in the quarterfinals. He was quite a running back. Not very big, but very quick. If you remember, in that game, Post ran back 2 kickoffs and a punt down to the six yard line. I break out in a cold sweat any time I see the Star Burst kickoff return :( . The kicking game decided the outcome of that game like no other I have ever seen.

No question the best 3A team EVER......in my opinion there are maybe 3 teams in 3A that are even in the same class as that Daingerfield bunch...prolly one of the Cuero teams from the 1970's....the 92 Southlake Carroll squad..and the 1980 Pittsburg team...other than that there hasn't been a 3A team come along that would stay within 30 of those guys....they woulda won 5A that year...

The stat that really caught my eye was that their opponents averaged less than one foot per play. Ouch!!
