Perry Clark is the new Texas A&M-Corpus Christi men's basketball coach.

Clark, 55, earned his name in college basketball when he resurrected Tulane basketball after that program was rocked by a point-shaving scandal. Clark restarted the Green Wave program in 1989 after it was shut down for a series of NCAA violations, and had six 20-win seasons at Tulane before heading to Miami. His 2001-2002 Miami team won 24 games and made the NCAA Tournament, but back-to-back losing seasons followed. Clark went 65-54 at Miami, but was bought out of his contract for $2.5 million.

In 15 seasons overall as a head coach, Clark led his teams to four NCAA Tournament appearances and five NIT showings. Prior to coaching at Tulane, Clark was the associate head coach at Georgia Tech and an assistant coach at Penn State.

Clark, who originally interviewed for the position last Thursday, came back to town over the weekend for a follow-up meeting.

"I think there is a lot to like about the job, the university and the area," Clark said Monday, before accepting the job. "Whoever gets this will have a lot to work with."

The other finalists for the job were Islanders associate head coach Andy Helton and Texas Tech assistant Chris Beard.

The A&M-Corpus Christi job came open when Ronnie Arrow left for South Alabama two weeks ago.
