THIS MEANT THAT THE 3 MEN EACH PAID $9 FOR THE ROOM, WHICH IS A TOTAL OF
> $27, ADD THE $2 THAT THE BELLBOY KEPT = $29.

you wouldnt add the $2 the bellboy kept because the men didnt get it back you. so it would be the room did cost $27 but each man has a dollar back so there is the $30.

Was this supposed to be a riddle?

you wouldnt add the $2 the bellboy kept because the men didnt get it back you. so it would be the room did cost $27 but each man has a dollar back so there is the $30.

Was this supposed to be a riddle?

but it said the room cost 25 dollars not 27

Hotel room is $25...the bellboy kept $2...and the men were given $3. 25 + 2 + 3 = 30. You can't use multiplication to check subtraction.

Here's the full math explanation that I found somewhere else...I would never break it down this far:

Total = 30
room = 25
bellboy = 2
men = 3 (1 x 3 = 3)

30 - 3 - 2 = 25

25 + 2 + 3 = 30

not

9 x 3 = 27 + 2 = 29

really each man paid 8.33 for the room:

25 / 3 = 8.33

eachman gets 1.00 back

bellboy gets 2.00

8.33 x 3 = 24.99 + 3 (eachman) = 27.99 + 2 (bellboy) = $29.99

off by one cent because of rounding off the remainder.

my theory is the bell boy was one of the guys and kept the 2 dollars and his 1 dollar cut. it makes more sense.
