Less connection with supply and demand than with speculators pushing the market on bad news. These incidents cause pressure which the commodities traders glom onto and bid up the price of crude. The concern is that it MAY have some connection to supply if there actually were a terrorist incident regarding the oil fields and processing plants.

Prices of most commodities react to news of either the bad or the good.
