WACO, Texas — A toddler handed a teacher a small bag of cocaine at a day-care center, authorities said.

Investigators were trying to determine how the 2-year-old girl got the small baggy Wednesday. It contained an off-white substance that tested positive for cocaine, police spokesman Steve Anderson said.

Because the bag was moist, the teacher worried that the girl may have put it in her mouth, Anderson said. The child was taken by her mother to the hospital.

Vivian Williams, director of the Williams Learning & Developmental Center, said the girl never had the cocaine in her mouth. Authorities could not say for certain Thursday whether cocaine was found in her system.

Chris Van Deusen, a spokesman for the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services, said the Division of Child Care Licensing was investigating.

Authorities are trying to determine if the cocaine was found inside the day-care center, picked up outside, brought from home or found on another child.

A narcotics-sniffing dog searched and found no additional drugs at the center, which typically houses about 90 children, Anderson said.

I bet the accusations are flying left and right - did she bring it from home or find it at day care? Hopefully she didn't ingest any of the drugs.
