I heard that a Cameron girl (is that PC?) threw the discus 5 feet over the state record yesterday at the district meet.

I don't know what the state record is, but she did throw it 160.

The Cameron radio station website said that she tossed it 160' which they reported was 5' over the state 3a record. She also placed at the Texas relays I believe.

Sorry for the communication error. Since it is a 3a website and a 3a district, I just assumed that everyone would know I was talking about 3a records. I know better than to assume but it is a bad habit that I have.

LHPM, was the wind over the acceptable levels to set a record yesterday?

Well, there was a breeze and I don't know what the acceptable level is, but if I'm remembering correctly, the wind wouldn't have been a factor in the distance. I think it was kind of blowing sideways to the angle the field sits. :thinking:

Johvonne Hernandez did quite well for herself after high school at Syracuse;

“Syracuse senior Johvonne Hernandez, who earned the women's 2006 Most Outstanding Field Performer honor, became a two-time 2006 BIG EAST Champion when she captured the women's shot put title with a toss of 15.00m.”

2003 all east performers discus & hammer throw

"Hernandez Breaks Three Records Senior Johvonne Hernandez (Port Isabel, Texas) broke three records with her NCAA Provisional toss of 19.78m in the weight throw on Saturday. The mark topped the Invitational and Manley Field House record of 19.36m which Faith Thompson from Buffalo set in 2005. The throw also topped her own SU indoor record that she set in 2004. Hernandez also won the shot put with a 15.10m toss."

Actually for the Discus, that can be a good wind depending on the direction and whether she is right or left handed. If you can get the right cross wind and your a savvy thrower you can use it to give the discus extra lift and give you an extra 5 to 10 feet of distance.

True....I did notice she seemed to have a knack. 5-10 feet if wind-aided still beat 2nd by a LOT. (118' 3")
