Well here it is...

1. 1983 Daingerfield Tigers: in my opinion the most dominant 3A team ever...they would have probably won the 5A title that year...

2. 1980 Pittsburg Pirates: maybe the most underrated great team ever..they get overshadowed by the 83 D'field squad because they came so close together and because the 2 towns are less than 20 miles apart..BUT their defense was just as dominating as D'field's....

3. 1992 Southlake Carroll Dragons: the best 3A team of the 90's..their wishbone was unstoppable..

4. 2001 Everman Bulldogs: one of the deepest teams ever in Class 3A, maybe the most balanced team of the top 10....

5. 1974 Cuero Gobblers: continued Cuero's 44 game winning streak in the early 70's...they went unbeaten even with every team in the state gunning for them....

6. 1967 Brownwood Lions: the 3rd of Gordon Wood's 7 state title teams and maybe the best...

7. 1975 Ennis Lions: the team that ended Cuero's 44 game winning streak in the 75 state title game..

8. 1997 Sealy Tigers: the best of Sealy's 4 peat??

9. 1976 Beaumont Hebert Panthers: one of the best collections of raw athletic talent the state had seen up to that point..they blew every team away..school was closed in the early 80's is now reopened and is known as Ozen High School..

10. 1990 Vernon Lions: one of the top 10 teams ever, however they get overshadowed by the 92 team that lost to SLC in that classic at Pennington Field.....

Matt...in order to compare apples to apples wouldn't you have to adjust for the realignment that eliminated class B in the seventies and functionally gave everybody an extra "A" to their classification? In which case the Brownwood team and some of the others of that timeframe would actually be considered 4A and not 3A if you factor in the fact that the old class "B" is now the equivalent of class A and so on.

The Bridge City Cardinal State Championship team of 1965-1966 was the best that I remember. McKinney was being touted as the best 3A team ever, by the original DFW Coliation(Dallas Morning News), and Bridge City had them on the ropes early by 30+ points, and played everyone on the bench, still dominating!

Well, I think it's pretty much agreed that the best 3a team of all time is '83 Daingerfield Tigers. Hell, they may be the best HS team period.
But, I have seen some film from those BC teams with Steve Worster. HS players of that caliber don't come along too often.

Here's one Matt, I hope I didn't overlook one of my favorites.

1)92 Southlake Carroll
2)83 Daingerfield
3)92 Vernon
4)74 Cuero
5)85 Daingerfield
6)94 Sealy
7)88 Southlake Carroll
8)02 Everman
9)84 Medina Valley
10)01 Everman

Note: 92 Vernon didn't win the championship, but I think they could have beaten any of the teams I listed 4-10.

Was Bridge City in 3A in 1965? :p

According to collier-sharp it was 1964 that BC beat McKinney..1965 BC lost to Brownwood 14-0 in the state title game..

In order to keep things consistent we will use Class 3A...even though the numbers of A's have changed things up a bit...

So does the top ten have to be in 3A now, or in 3A when they had their great years? Just wondering because if the former is true, its kinda hard to leave Celina out of the top 10 aint it?

They had to be in 3A when they had their great year...for example SLC is 5A now..but in 1992 they were 3A

how about a top 20.. i think the 92 Gainesville team could squeeze in there.. they had 3 guys that went pro.. and got beat out by the SLC game in the semi finals

Keith if you wanted to do a top 20 you can...LOL I'll prolly only count the top 10 though...I think the 1976 state runner up Gainesville team could be considered a top 20 team as well...

I thought the 64 BC team was up there...if I had to give em a number I'd say 11 or 12...I debated back and forth on them 1990 Vernon and 1994 Sealy....

True RBARKER...those are all great dynasties....but we are looking at one year great teams...by the way I don't really like rating teams from the 50's because personally kids today are bigger and faster and likely would probably beat most of those great teams from yester year..plus those Breckenridge teams weren't exactly the cleanest teams around so personally I don't like to ackowledge them....but that is a LONG story..LOL

Matt...I agree with you concerning todays kids being so much bigger/stronger and faster than the fifties kids (I think that it also applies to the kids in the 60's and 70's as well). However, if those kids had the same type of training, nutrition, and all of the modern advantages that we now enjoy and take for granted, then those teams might very well be as good as the teams we see now. I think that you have to take that into consideration when evaluating a team from yesteryear. We should try not to downgrade the dominance of the teams from the past just because they didn't have the advantages that we now enjoy. Dominance is dominance whether it is in 1950 or 2050.

Bridge city won state in the 1965-1966 year, Matt. They lost to Brownwood 14-0 the previous season 1964-1965......They were 3A, P.P., in fact they were the 4th smallest enrollment in 3A when they won the Championship...Sorry, I was there-Collier-Sharpe is wrong again!

Hey now, everyone... remember that you have to stack up teams compared to the teams of the day. For example, most teams from the 1950's and 60's averaged, what, maybe 180 across the line whereas many of today's teams have guys who are just as quick as those 180-pounders and are 250 and up.

We only have one other vote??? I am disappointed...I figured you guys would chime in on your all time 3A teams..I am really disappointed!!
