Just in case anyone goes through Navasota soon, take a look in front of the High School. The new football field artificial surface is completely laid down now and boy does it look good! The entire stadium will be completed within two to three months. It is almost officially set for 3000 home seats and 1200 visitor seats, with seating for the band and drill team in the East endzone. The scoreboard/jumbotron will go up also with a 12 X 8 foot screen to be controlled by a new High School technology class, as well as a 3 X 9 foot marquee on the back of the scoreboard to replace the old letterboard sign at the entrance.
For any of you who have had to come play at the old Brule Field, this will be a whole different experience now when you travel to play Navasota, or stop here for a playoff game. We miss the tradition of Brule, but are excited about having one of the best stadiums in the area going up over here.

What kind of turf are they installing? Is it like that at Victoria? If so that seems to be very close to grass other than the heat it produces. I recall the first time I went on the Victoria field I actually thought it was grass at first sight. Also remember some great games at the Snake Pit, one in particular came in 1989. Sealy under TJ Mills was just getting its program going and Navasota had played for the state championship the year before. Sealy came in a big underdog and were able to defeat a great Navasota team 10-7. I remember the steep bleachers on the visitors side and how close everything was to the field of play. That was the year Mexia won the Class 3A state championship and defeated Sealy in the second round of play 20-7. Just doesn't seem as though that will be 18 years ago this fall.

Too bad Bellville won't be playing there this upcoming season. The old stadium was one of my favorites, lots of tradition and very close to the action.

Yeah when I played there in 2002 I thought it was freakin sweet thing to walk down those stairs from the locker rooms to the field!!

It is artificial turf. The goalposts are up, the track asphalt is completely laid all the way around, but the surface won't be laid until heavy equipment is finished moving around. The stands/press box and concession are still to be built. You can see lots of steel work going up now, but that is the new weight room, locker rooms, competition gym, and band hall that are being built also. But the field looks great, with blue endzones that say "NAVASOTA" at one end, and "RATTLERS" at the other end. The logo at the 50 looks awesome too. Hopefully, this stuff will start moving faster as soon as finals are over.

Seating will be constructed so that if additions are needed in the future, they can be done easily so. As it is, we rarely draw enough to fill 1200 seats. Brule held about 600, and although many probably didn't go to Brule as visitors because of it's condition, it took a matchup like Bellville or Brenham to fill even those 600. I am more worried if we will fill up our 3000 on the home side, seeing as Band and Diamonettes are going to be sitting in the endzone seats in the east endzone.

This new stadium only will seat 4200?? Silsbee's new Tiger Stadium seats 10,000 and we are 3A the same as Navasota. In fact, I'm pretty sure we are close to the same enrollment too.

I know that everyone around the area can't wait to see just how the stadium will look in the end and how much different it is for Navasota, but I am sorry to say that should be the last thing on that towns' mind. In case some of you aren't that familiar with that area, let me inform you. I am a graduate of the Navasota High School, and it was a load of fun times when I went there. But because of this new football stadium, there is no longer enough money for every student to have books in the classroom, the furniture is being bought second hand, and there are allegations about the high school principal threatning kids and other things. I'm sorry but I loved Brule Field. It was apart of the towns' history and had many great runs. Yes I know it was old, but honestly if you can't supply books for every child in the classroom, then something is wrong. Yea I know that test scores don't get all the excitement and don't bring home a state trophy, but those kids are the future and the school district is just out to show boat what it can do. There is to much other stuff going on right now in that town then what is seen, and all anybody can think about is that damn football field. If you can't give kids the education that they are promised, then they should not be allowed to build a multi-million dollar football complex. I know this is a long thread and bashes the stadium, but this is something that has bothered me for a long time and I thought it was time it got out there.

It was the town that approved it, text books are useless anyways. I had 3 of them this year, NEVER used 2 of them(Physics and Literature) and used a US History a couple times a month.

brule is a historic place and holds a special place in the community, but has outlived it's use as an athletic facility

I know nothing about the situation in navasota, but I read the message about the text books and jiborish, and that is all it is JIBORISH. The kids and the community, and opposing teams will enjoy the stadium, and I am sure the kids are getting as good an education as they are willing to put forth the effort and "want to".

NICE STADIUM

no new school...the land up front was the school's already...all of the land behind isn't...i also think(opinion coming) that having the stadium in front facing the hwy 6 bypass will be an advertisement to passers-by...

but I didnt see all the roads

coiled2strike

traffic is going to be a HUGE issue...they are expanding the student parking lot in front of the high school to accommodate home parking and expanding the teachers' lot at the adjacent junior high campus to accommodate visitor parking...each has a separate entrance...i'm not sure how they decided to handle game day traffic, but i do know that txdot and many others were consulted b/4 going forward w/ construction

Future growth for Navasota is being speculated in the Millican and Plantersville areas of the district. In the next 5-10 years Navasota may be looking at building another elementary school in the Millican area for the growth coming from College Station.

You are correct in saying that there are also future plans to combine the current High School and Jr. High into ONE High School. Plans include include using the majority of the Jr. High for classroom space and the current High School might be used for other areas in need (new science labs, etc...)

Future plans do include building a new Jr. High School when our growth calls for it.

All of this information is not a secret and has been taken to the community at several Town Hall forums.

Navasota ISD is moving forward.....

its tough for me to post this reply, and i really don't know how to start it! its been a while since ive been on here with summer school and work, but after i read what i wrote i want to apologize for my actions. I wrote what i did out of feeling instead of knowledge. I grew up in Navasota and when something like brule is no longer going to be used for football, it really did take a piece of my heart because i have been goin to football games there since i was a little kid. plus with all of the rumors going around about everything it just ticked me off about the new stadium. i am truly sorry for my actions and for going on rumors, but after hearing the same story over and over, it just became something everyone was talkin about. and like i said, i am still saddened about brule and those of you that have grown up in small towns where every home game has been played at for so many years, I'm sure, or at least hopin ya'll know how i fell. anyways, good luck to NHS this year, i'll be able to make it to some games cause of family and friends still performing on friday nights!
