<<AUSTIN -- Texas coach Rick Barnes on Thursday said he plans on being the Longhorns coach next season, shooting down speculation that he would entertain leaving for Kentucky’s vacant head coaching job.

“I’m the Texas basketball coach,” Barnes said.

Barnes became linked to Kentucky as a possible candidate to take over the all-time winningest college basketball program after Florida’s Billy Donovan announced Thursday he is staying in Gainesville.

Barnes met with Texas athletic director DeLoss Dodds Thursday afternoon in what Barnes called a previously scheduled appointment. Barnes said he and Dodds were meeting, as they always do at the end of a basketball season, to discuss what needs to be done to improve the program.>>

Here's an idea...Dodds and Barnes want to improve the program? How about you start by doing everything you can to encourage Barnes to go to Kentucky where he can pull the wool over the eyes of the Big Blue Nation!

Yes that Final Four...the Final 8 and The numerous sweet 16 teams he has had is REALLY pulling the wool over the eyes of Texas fans..Sorry I just dont get the hate for him. He took a program that had fallen and was full of scandal after Penders and has made them one of the top programs in the nation.

He said that to cover his pride, knowing Billy G from Texas ATM would beat him out for the job.

Plain and simple. Plus I don't see a lot of selfish pride in Barnes. Pride in his program maybe, but not pompous or anything like that.

**Edit**: meant to quote JR2004, not you. My bad!

I am an Aggie, but to say negative things about Barnes is ludicrous. He took a program involved in a Tom Penders scandal & has taken it to new heights. Is he a great in-game coach? NO. Is he a great recruiter, people person, smooth operator, etc.? YES.

Barnes is happy in Austin, & it appears as of now that BCG is headed to basketball country in the Bluegrass State. BCG has obviously stalled to sign his new deal, & has been waiting on Kentucky. It sure looks like Gillispie is long gone. No need to trash Barnes over this decision.
