we do have a tradition of trading away the wrong prospect

And this is why the Rangers are no threat to win the NL West. This franchise is going to continue to suffer for not handing the GM reigns to Grady Fuson when they had the chance to do so.

The Rangers brass basically decided on this move about a week ago. They believe that the John Hart regime ruined his career and got into his head by rushing him from Class A ball to the majors a couple of years ago, with only a couple of starts at AA and AAA. They said that having him start in class A should help him dominate that league and rebuild confidence, with hopes of him moving up through the minors on a more normal schedule.

Diamond will miss a year, but he'll be fine come next spring training. He competed well this year, and the hope was that he'd be in the majors next...now he'll just have to rehab and try to be a midseason callup next year...not a huge loss considering all the players that have returned to have great careers lately after this surgery. Some say that it actually improves on a pitcher's velocity when they have it at such a young age!

There's no way the Sox would have traded McCarthy for Volquez or Diamond. Everybody knew that Danks was the top prospect in the organization. A lot of noise is being made about Danks making the Sox rotation, but what you have to realize is that the Rangers still have McCarthy. He'll be in the 3 spot in the rotation while Danks will be in the 5. That says something about where they're at right now. McCarthy was considered more of a can't miss prospect than Danks when he was in Chicago, so I'm more than happy to let this thing work itself out over the next year or two.
