A few years back, Pedro Martinez and Randy Johnson posted a combined 8-something ERA in Spring Training. That year, Johnson struck out 364 batters and posted a 2.48 ERA while Pedro struck out 313, posted a 2.07 ERA, and picked up 23 wins.

Last year, Andruw Jones was the big thing going into the regular season. He had posted outrageous home run numbers and an outrageous batting average in Spring Training. Once he got to the show, though, it took him three or four weeks to warm up.

Spring Training means absolutely zilch. The only reason I keep up with it is to see which players are going to be starting once the season rolls around. Right now, some guy named Scott Hairston is batting .426 with 6 dingers and Big Willie Bloomquist, that mountain of a man, is sporting a .448 average through 58 AB's. Meanwhile, Albert Pujols only has one homer and a .262 average and flamethrowers Scott Olsen and Jason Schmidt are getting lit up.

Personally, I don't think it's a whole lot to worry about.

Kevin Millwood said afterwards that he didn't get a care and was just ready to be done with spring training...a lot of players were echoing that sentiment when a game against the Mariners was televised Monday night. I know that they should probably play for pride, but at the same time, they probably weren't trying too hard considering opening night is only a few days away.

I agree. I can't decide which is more painful...spring training or the NFL exhibition games.

I'll go with NFL exhibition on that one because most of the time, a spring training game resembles real baseball...the NFL just looks weird to watch I think.

The NFL should cut the pre-season schedule to 4 games.

it was just spring training but its never good when your ace and your closer have a complete falling out like that.. Maybe they were just working on pitches that they have been having trouble with.. all this has no bearing on what really matters, and that is gaining the great title of "Champions of Texas" a.k.a. the winners of the Silver Boot.. just wait until May 18th

Rangers & Astros both have pitching concerns. That is obvious & we'll just have to see once the real games begin. Hurry up April 1st!

Hurry up April 1st! one of these years Rangers have pitching and offense at the same time. Maybe this year but all that matter first is the Silver boot :D then the rest of the season. For the Astros it seems to be always good to great pitching and defense but no offense. Maybe they get it together this year.
