Has this affected anyone??

I had a kitten die a couple of months ago. We took her in to the vet, they couldn't find anything wrong. They gave my son (who works there) some meds to give her and she died 3 days later.

The only thing we could get her to eat was the can food....the very same food that they have recalled.

I just heard the symptoms on TV, she had every single one!!

RIP Shotzi!!:(

She's the calico...the black and white one is as rotten as ever!

I have two cats at home. I printed out the list of foods and it turns out that I had a couple of cans that were on the list. I disposed of them, but I don't remember what flavor of food I fed them the past week or two. They seem fine, so I'm not too worried.

Both the cats at home eat dry cat food. This recall isnt affecting dry cat food is it?

Our cats eat dry food. Once in a blue moon, I'll let them each have a little can of Fancy Feast as a treat. (Then there's tuna water.... )

I'm sorry about your kitten. It probably was the food. We came back last Thursday from the lake and picked our dog up from the vet's where we'd boarded her. She was sick and when I heard about the recall I got worried, but she only eats dry food and I understand it's the wet food that's dangerous. Anyway, she's better now.

What was the pet food recalled?

all Menu Foods wet food i believe, which includes the hill country fare brand as well

All my dogs are cool. They eat dry food and table scraps  spoiled brats! They do have Ol' Roy treats -- I noticed they were on the list, but I don't know if it included the treats so I just threw them out to be on the safe side.

Kellye I'm so sorry about the kitty. :(

Phil...there are many brands of food that are affected because these foods are all processed at the Menu Foods plant. Low quality foods like Ol Roy and higher end foods such as IAMS are all affected. It is only canned or "pouch" foods. This is a real threat...Do not take this lightly. These foods are producing severe kidney failure that has been reproduced experimentally by feeding these diets. Right now they don't know the cause...they suspect possibly a Mycotoxin (often seen in grains and has killed livestock in the past). The list of foods and affected UPC numbers can be found at the Menu Foods website at: www.menufoods.com/recall

If anyone has any more specific questions...post on this thread and I will try to get you an answer...

Oh my gosh, she was a beauty. I am so sorry!

This recall is killing me! Especially, hearing about all of these deaths. My animals are my kids and I would die if anything happened to them.

Crazy as it sounds, I have 5 cats and 1 dog left. I buried 2 dogs during the holiday season.

We are just big animal lovers. I would have more if I had a bigger house with more land.

But god forbid Terry and I ever get divorced, cause I would probably be known as the crazy cat lady.

I have an unopened case of 9-lives and two cans of Fancy Feast....so I think we are okay.

Special Kitty is what we were feeding them when she got sick.

What are the symptoms if they die from this food? My son's dog died a couple of months ago and we don't know what happened. In dog years to our years he was only about 38.

Symptoms are consistent with kidney disease/failure:
1) Lethargic
2) Inappetence
3) Vomiting
...these first symptoms lead too
4) Dehyrdation
5) Sores in mouth (sometimes)
6) Weakness and inability to stand or walk well
7) Changes in urination, sometimes blood, sometimes no urine, sometimes increased urine and thirst.
8) Death

This is not an exhaustive list...there are others that individual patients may exhibit

Thanks for the information everyone. They thing that is scary is that we still have some of the cans of dog food that we just never got around to giving to our neighbor. Good thing too. :(
