A few recent threads have brought up the topic of oil changes, and it got me wondering what everyone on the DL uses. Personally, I try to use only Castrol, but will go to Exxon or Chevron if there's absolutely no other options. I avoid Pennzoil and Quaker State like the plague.

What about everyone else?

I am clueless. Someone else deals with all that. ROFL!

Why do you avoid those 2 oils??

When I worked for Dodge we all went to a techical workshop and the best motor oil was Exxon super flo for the reason behind the name. It flo's better than any of the other oils. As far as viscosity breakdowns, it is only critical in super hot applications. For daily driving the oil filter and how often it is changed is more important. I was good friends with a man who owned a datsun 510 with a canister filter. He would pull the canister every 5000 miles and put a new roll of toilet paper. That was his filter. He changed his oil every 10000 miles. Last time I saw him he had 300,000 miles on the engine and no major engine work had been done yet. Not even on the heads.

Royal Purple (synthetic oil). I noticed a significant jump in gas mileage and engine performance once I switched. Plus it's cheaper in the long run because you go longer between oil changes.
