what's do you suggest on changing the oil on a new (well not new but 16,000 miles) car. Husband said he thinks we could get by with 5000 miles instead of the standard 3000 miles...... talk amongst yourself :)

ps we ended up with the 2006 Montego - got a really good deal which includes the extended warranty to 92,000 miles - The Honda was really nice but it was a 2004 with 55,000 miles on it for just $1000 less than the Montego - plus that Honda would flat out "get it" on the highway - too much and too quick for an 18 yr old lol...................

ok back to your discussions...........

as long as you use a good, synthetic oil, 5000 is fine in my opinion

I answered this question on the Truck thread awhile ago. Oil changes even out to 20000 miles are no issue as long as you use good oil and change the filter every 7 or 8000 miles. That keeps the oil clean which is the main problem. Oil does not break down as fast as the industry would like you to believe.
