Alaniz pitches two-hitter in Baseball's 10-0 win over Miami (Ohio)

AUSTIN, Texas -- Adrian Alaniz pitched a complete-game shutout to lead the University of Texas to a 10-0 win over Miami (Ohio) University in collegiate baseball action Saturday afternoon at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.

Alaniz (5-1) scattered two hits and only allowed four base runners on the day as one RedHawk reached on an error and one was hit by a pitch. The junior fanned seven Miami batters over the nine innings. It marked Texas' first complete-game shutout since May 26, 2005 when Randy Boone posted a 9-0 win over Kansas.

Texas' offense was powered by true freshman Josh Prince and sophomore Kyle Russell. Prince went 5-for-5 with one double, three runs scored and two RBI. Russell went 2-for-5 with one home run and four RBI. It marked Russell's ninth home run of the season and his third in the last two games.

Texas (14-7) pounced on the RedHawks early with two runs in the bottom of the first inning. Travis Tucker reached second base on a throwing error by Miami's second baseman. A sacrifice bunt by Chance Wheeless pushed Tucker to third and he scored on a sacrifice fly by Jordan Danks. With two outs, Bradley Suttle doubled to the right centerfield gap and Russell singled through the right side of the infield to plate Suttle and stake Texas to a 2-0 lead.

The Longhorns tacked on two more runs in the second inning. Preston Clark led off the frame with a walk. A fielder's choice made Nick Peoples the runner at first. He stole second base and scored on an RBI single by Prince. Prince stole second base, moved to third on a groundout by Tucker and scored on a single to leftfield by Wheeless, inflating the Longhorns' cushion to 4-0.

Texas did most of its damage in the fourth inning. Prince and Tucker led off the inning with singles and with one out, Danks drew a walk to load the bases. Suttle plated Prince with a sacrifice fly and Russell cleared the bases with a moon shot over the rightfield fence, increasing the advantage to 8-0.

The Longhorns added insurance runs in the fifth and eighth innings. In the fifth, Danks drove in Prince with a single. Prince hit an RBI single in the eighth to push Clark across with the final run.

Suttle supplemented Texas' offensive arsenal, going 2-for-3 with one double, one run scored and one RBI. It marked his 13th multiple-hit game of the season.

Connor Graham (1-1) was saddled with the loss for Miami. He yielded eight runs, six earned, on nine hits and two walks while striking out two.

Jordan Petraitis and Jeff Carroll accounted for the only hits for Miami (3-5).

Texas and Miami wrap up the three-game series on Sunday with a 1 p.m. contest at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.
