What's so wild about Blanton was he could have won the 400, 800, 100, 200 at any meet. He got 2nd in Austin his FRESHMAN year in the 400. He could of ran a 1:50 800 meter dash. He showed what he could do in the 100 and 200.

he did for a year. Went to OU and after his red shirt year he went straight track and won a National Championship in the 60 meters and should have won the 100 meters. He signed a pro contract with Nike

From what I understand, after his freshman year, Bob Stoops wanted him to bulk up to protect himself to play football...bulking up obviously gives you more weight and slows you down, so he figured track was his ticket to success over football...he barely missed the 2004 Olympics when he missed qualification by only a few hundredths of a second while running his worst time of the year on a bad hamstring...now he's working on making the 2008 Olympics.

there was a lot of fighting amongsqt coaches for DaBryan during the Spring of his freshman year. The football coaches were busting his chops about getting to spring practice and the track coaches were fighting with the football coaches saying he needed to be focusing on his track. DaBryan told me he was sick of it all and just picked one...and that was track and focused on it!

This guy was an urban legend back in high school until I saw him at the state track meet. I'd hear all kinds of crazy stories about him.

I'm pretty sure one was when he ran at a Regional Qualifiers meet in Glen Rose. During the 100m dash he fell getting out of the blocks, basically being on his stomach. He caught himself in push up position, got up and won the race by 5 meters. Everyone was in awe. I can't remember a time, but I do remember thinking that this guy could possibly beat our whole spring relay team if he ran the 400m. Nuts.

I have heard that story too. Supposedly he still ran a 10.6 or 10.8 in that race. Freaking amazing.

I remember one time, forgot who it was against, probably one of the dallas schools. A player hit him for a loss and knocked off his helmet, he grabbed his helmet and taunted the crowd with it. Next play Dabryan took it 60 for the score.

I wonder if Forney's 400 team ever had a team place within 2 seconds of them. Even without him they would of won. That was back when Forney had white people with speed.

and from what I hear his little brother will be faster than him.

Anyone remember Jonathan Johnson from Abilene High, I saw him do some pretty amazing things as well. He ran in the last Olympics.

they were fast but they wouldnt have won it without him. At the state meet his junior and senior years they were behind...one year they were way behind...when he got the baton and he worked his magic!

His senior year it was Woods, Gilmer, Gerner, Blanton
His junior year it was Tomlinson, Gilmer, Gerner, Blanton

Isnt that right?

I got to see Blanton dismantle a poor RC team in 2000, also got to see him against Everman

man was he fast

I never thought of him as a truly great football player, but that kind of speed pretty much speaks for itself

I think choosing track was the way to go, I hope he makes the Olympic team and wins a gold medal......how many kids from Crandall/Forney have done that?

Crandall has to beat Forney twice before they can start thinking about the Olympics
