This pic was supposedly taken in Jan of last year around Mason, TX. I have heard over the years about numerous cougar sightings in just about all areas of Texas. I know cougars inhabit some regions of Texas, but i wonder just how widespread they are and how accurate all of the cougar sightings really are.

I borrowed this pic from my friend Barry Green's blog---"Liberally Lean In the Land of Dairy Queen":

I joke around on here a lot but this is not a joke:

I saw one about a year and a half ago down here on the coast... I was driving down the road (flat as all hell here with lots of corn-fields) and I saw what I thought was a dog cross the road at about 300 yards away... got within 50 yards from it and it was about to enter a corn field... it was a big ass cat and a chit you not...

my friends have seen large cat tracks and think they spotted one at their lease near Cuero/Yorktown...

also we video-taped one at Lake Corpus Christi outside of Mathis when I was about 15... we didn't know what it was, but I'm for sure now that is what it was...

after seeing the one I first mentioned in this reply, I started doing some research and discovered that there had actually been a confirmed cougar fatality in Wharton County some time back... Wharton County neighbors the county I am in...

the thing is that they travel large distances... they may be here one day and a 100 miles back west the next week...

My uncle swears he saw a kangaroo near the Willis Bridge on Lake Texoma about 30 years ago. I'd like to know how many of you have heard of kangaroo sightings in Texas and how prevalent they are. Is there a hidden population of kangaroos running rampant across our counties without our knowledge?
