Newton goes against our next door neighboors,Kirbyville. After a week of rain and a tragic death of a 2002 graduate, last year was number 88, James Davison. We will give a moment of silence before kick-off deacading this weeks game to him. ButI know this hasn't been the best week for our boys but I know they will pull together and WIN!!! GooD LUcK!!

A large "N" and "88" should be burned in the middle of Kirbyville's field in Mr Davison's honor.

Newton 56
Kirbyville 0

Friday night will be a very emotional game for Newton players and fans...Monday, October 21, 2002, James Davison's life was tragically taken from him at age 18. The game will be dedicated in his honor and the players will be wearing the number 88 on their helmets, they will also be retiring (sp?) his jerseys which were given to his family. I never dreamed that I would see a whole football team and their coaches cry...to see those big guys and the coaches show that emotion was just unbelievable. I am really impressed with the support the team and the coaches gave to his family today at the services...He will be missed dearly by everyone in Newton.

It happened Monday and he was on his way to the Newton Elementary School where he had been working and they said that he fell asleep and went to the other side of the road and hit an 18-wheeler.

St.Ivender, in another post you made reference to the '82 Newton team. That team made it to the quarterfinal game played in Katy. Were you a member of this team or did you graduate around this time? I have a brother who started both ways and blocked for Anthony Byerly. His nickname was "Bird". Would you happen to know him?

I think this is the year Kirbyville defeat Newton Alot of people think newton is going to blow kirbyville out but me i don't think so newton is not as talented as they was in the past. But I really like what Jack Alvarez is doing with the program over there he has really turned it around. If newton underestimate them Kirbyville wins 20-6.

Saint,
I had a good idea of who you were, I just wanted to confirm the hunch. Bird is still about 1/2 "crazy" isn't he? It's been awhile since I've seen you, nice talking to ya.

My cover is blown. "Bird" is still loco and was the life of the party. Get me an email address and I'll send you some pictures of us. He told me where you are but I can't remember now.
I'll be looking for your opinions on this forum.
Go Eagles!

To Rock6

This is probably the 4th or 5th best team in the past 20 years at Newton. The Wildcats better tighten their chin straps and the faithful get ready for a pounding. Throw out the Jasper vs Newton game. It was an anomaly.

Saint,
Those are pretty strong words from an old offensive tackle. I will be talking with you soon.
