With the impending close of Texas Stadium on the horizon and the Astrodome no longer holding NFL games, which stadium will hold greater historical significance and memory?

Texas Stadium

Astrodome stadium holds the prestige first of it's kind. But Texas stadium holds the more significant history.

The Dome. It was the first of it's kind. I was just in there last week after the George Strait show at the rodeo. The field is still marked on the concrete floor, yard lines and all. It gave me chills to think of all the great moments that happened right where I was standing.

I too have to say the Astrodome. Being the first of it's kind holds the value of this stadium. The Astrodome was THE model stadium until 1992 when the Orioles opened Camden Yards. How many multi-use facilities were opened in that time frame? I know that not all of them had a domed roof but there were plenty of big time facilities built in the image of the dome. The Vet in Philly, 3 Rivers in Pittsburgh, Riverfront in Cincy, Busch Stadium in St. Louis.... the list could go on and on. All of these stadiums were built specifically similar to the dome to be able to hold multiple events at the same facility with a relatively quick turn-around time.

if it wasn't for a blind date to a Houston Oilers vs Pittsburgh Steelers game...I would never be here so I too have to take the Astrodome.

I'm a lifelong Cowboy fan, but:

The Oilers should still be playing in Houston and wearing powder blue.

"Love Ya Blue"

Look out football, here we come,
Houston Oilers, number one.
Houston has the Oilers, the greatest football team.
We take the ball from goal to goal like no one's ever seen.
We're in the air, we're on the ground ... always in control
And when you say the Oilers, you're talking Super Bowl.

'Cause we're the Houston Oilers, Houston Oilers, Houston Oilers, Number One.
Yes, we're the Houston Oilers, Houston Oilers, Houston Oilers, Number One.

We've got the offense.
We've got the defense.
We give the other team no hope. 'Cause we're the Houston Oilers, Houston Oilers,
You know we're gonna hold the rope

To me there was not a better place to watch High School Football playoffs than the Astrodome. I remember sitting there many Saturdays watching 3 and sometimes 4 games in one day.

Are you guys freaking insane? The only thing the dome has going for it was that it was the first of its kind.

Texas Stadium has played host to the most storied NFL franchise in history. Numerous memorable playoff games and 5 NFC Championship games! It's not even close.

8th Wonder of the World. Who could forget UH and Elvin Hayes defeating UCLA and Lew Alcindor. There was also 2 MLB all-star games and a NBA all-star game. The Astros and Mets in the NLCS. Evel Knieval and even the Bad News Bears performed in the Dome. :D

The largest rodeo called the Dome home for many years. The Dome hands down, but Texas Stadium had a greater history when it came to the NFL

The Dome, one other note also, the womens football team has never played in the dome to my knowledge. I believed they played at Rice and now they have moved to Skipp Lee Stadium.

Are you guys nuts?
Texas Stadium "storied"?

ITS JUST A FOOTBALL FIELD. It can't hang with the dome legend for legend. The sheer amount of marquee events alone puts the dome head and shoulders above the stadium with the hole on the roof.

More Hall of Famers called the dome home than the irving experiement.

DOME baby!
