As for wireless, thinking about getting one of the phone cards. Anybody know what carriers typically charge for the monthly service?

I would get a mac but they don't run windows.... I bought a dell simply becuase I made it the way I wanted it... Its not the best laptop but I haven't had any probs with it yet.

your monthly service through Cingular for their UMTS/HSDPA/EDGE/GPRS card is $60 I believe...it used to be as high as $80 but they've been running a "special" price for over a year now.

My next laptop is going to be a Mac. I love my Dell, but Macs just have a better design and seem to be pretty reliable.

Just move to Houston, they will offer city-wide Wi-Fi. It will be available in Lufkin in a couple of months.
