anybody know much about them??? I just know that they're way out in West Texas. They're 29-2...ranked #10 in the state (according to the ARN) and will play #2 Wylie on Friday night in the LBK.

I know nothing, except they whooped us pretty good. Here is the article from the MRT:

The Greenwood boys basketball team was undone by a team which could shoot straight -- and long -- Tuesday night.

In a Class 3A regional quarterfinal game at Sul Ross State University, No. 10 Fabens came out firing from a lot further out than expected. Most of those shots landed as well, as the Wildcats hit nine 3-pointers to defeat Greenwood 73-55 and end the season for the Rangers.

While Greenwood finishes the season 20-13, Fabens (29-2) continues its most successful season in school history, which will include a trip to the Region I-3A tournament at Texas Tech's United Spirit Arena starting Friday.

You couldn't blame the Rangers for wondering what hit them. Fabens hit five 3-pointers in the first quarter en route to making 9-of-16 from beyond the arc for the game.

"I thought we fought hard but (the Wildcats) did a good job of stepping up and hitting a big shot when we looked like we might make a run," Greenwood coach Justin Morett said. "They hadn't shot the three that well all season."

Shooting the three was where Fabens shot the ball the best the entire game. In fact, long range was the only shooting category where the Wildcats shot over 50 percent, as they were 15-of-31 on conventional shots and a dismal 16-of-35 from the free-throw line.

The difference in the game was that the long-range accuracy which carried Fabens eluded the Rangers, who put up more 3-point attempts than the Wildcats with 19. Problem was, Greenwood hit only two of those shots, both of them coming from Michael Washington, who had a game-high 23 points and 10 rebounds in his final high school game.

The totals put up by seniors Washington and Lane Flowers (15 points) both would have led Fabens. However, the Wildcats were far more balanced offensively than expected, as all five of their starters scored in double figures and the rest of the Rangers outside of Washington and Flowers combined for only 17 points.

Much of Greenwood's defensive game plan concentrated on containing Fabens inside players Charlie Salazar and R.J. Ortiz, both of whom finished with 13 points.

"I think the kids did what I asked them to do as far as defending their two big guys," Morett said.

But it was the not-so-big guys who ended up hurting Greenwood. Four different Wildcats (none of whom were Salazar or Ortiz) hit 3-pointers to open the scoring for Fabens, the last of which, a trey by Steven Cadena, gave the Wildcats a 12-9 lead which they never relinquished.

Fabens led 19-11 at the end of the first quarter and led by as many as nine in the first half. Naturally, a 3-pointer by Sergio Ceballos, who led Fabens with 14 points, sent the Wildcats into the locker room with a 30-22 halftime lead.

Flowers and Austin Ivie opened the second half by scoring on layups for Greenwood to cut it to 30-26, but the Rangers got no closer. Fabens went on a 10-3 run to end the quarter, as Salazar and Cadena scored on consecutive layups to make it 48-37.

Greenwood got as close as eight in the fourth quarter, but the Rangers could never put together a run. Washington scored eight points in the fourth quarter before fouling out, and when he left the game Greenwood's chances seemed to go with him.

It was a commendable way for Washington to go out since he was feeling ill prior to the game.

"Michael Washington wasn't feeling real well and he ran out of gas in the fourth quarter," Morett said. "He still had a great game."

Noe Avila had 11 points for Fabens while Cadena added 10.

They are an athletic bunch. They love to get up and down the floor. They have one kid I believe number 15, he does not have the best work ethic or attitude but he is a player. He is a post but loves to come outside, he shoots the three pretty well and is really good with a hand in his face. I think Wylie is better but I could see Fabens winning, they will have to play really well and shoot well to beat Wylie.
