This effects so many people on so many different levels.

Mainly because they are not allowing anyone to look at the public records right now.

Maybe Perry didn't think about this effecting the Oil business, or the Real Estate business....

I mean ideally, its a great idea! ;) We black out SSN's on leases all the time...and it really is a risk to have your SSN on public record.

But business has pretty much come to a halt over the past week. This is NOT good for business!!!!! :helpme:

Well the public county records in Texas are pretty much closed for business right now. Every courthouse is approaching it differently...some are trying to come up with ways for people to continue to do their jobs, but I know one courthouse here in East Texas is only letting you look at indexes.

I know the landmen here at the company that I work for are all writing the governor ....God willing, I hope something changes quick!

To AAPL Members:

Last Wednesday, February 21, the Attorney General of Texas issued the captioned opinion, which, if strictly followed, prevents county clerks in Texas from allowing access to any public records until all social security numbers have been redacted from all documents. As a consequence, several court houses have closed their vaults as of this morning.

AAPL has been working toward a solution since Friday morning when it learned of the problem. We are in contact with the AG’s office, legislators and other associations in an effort to constructively resolve the issue.

Hopefully they will figure out to just black out the numbers and all will be fine...BUT we know how slow things are done sometimes in courthouses

But bejeezes...can you imagine how long that is gonna take? Even with all of the ladies in there blacking out each one...it would still take a few days. :(

Depends..Not ALL Deeds and leases have SS numbers on them, only newer ones and even then not all of those.
