We'll see come playoff time. ;) I remember hearing the same things in 2003 (referring to the Lakers) and 2005 (referring to the Pistons).

It's an odd-numbered year, son. The title goes through San Antone.

I don't think Dallas has been #1 on these Power Rankings the entire season. Before Nash got hurt and the suns were still like 1-7 against good teams they were at #1.

Rankings?
don't look at rankings
look at the scoreboard
look at the standings
look at the results
don't look at the rankings

They were number 1 for about 4 days I think.

I like Stein's Rankings alot better.

lol
Yall get all riled up over the rankings.
I think that no doubt the Mavs should be ranked no.1 now and Phoenix no. 2. The Spurs should be no. 3 imho.
I agree with bdr, the Spurs just might have a major say on The Championship.

Yeah that one is a way better picture I think.

By the way, didnt the Mavs just make their FIRST trip to the finals? Yeah, I didnt think they had EVER won the championship...

Mavs made the finals in 26 years, took the spurs 30

The Celtics have 17 championships. Does it matter now? No they suck.

The spurs are old and whiny

Spurs are not old...they are experienced. Now they have nerves of steel and will coast through the first two rounds, and meet the Mavs and take them in six. We are too consistently good. And, the Celtics are out of the running, you cant compare the two.

Spurs weren't in the NBA until '76. And they made their first trip count. :D

The Spurs are the only former American Basketball Association team to have won an NBA championship, which they have done three times.

As of November 2006, the Spurs rank second of active franchises for highest winning percentage in NBA history (behind the Los Angeles Lakers).

The Spurs passed the Boston Celtics (the first franchise to do so with a statistically significant number of games played since March 30, 1988) with a win over the Miami Heat on November 22, 2006.

The Mavs have also missed the playoffs a total of 14 times of the 26 years.

and like russ said, spurs won their first time in the finals.;)

Was that last year's game 7 in SA? I think I'm to the right of Tim's Elbow... color shirt I was wearing, looks like there may be a championship hat on the guy (which I was wearing)... and that's about where I was sittin'...

if not though, what a coincidence....

this whole mavs/spurs stupid really... neither of 'em won a championship last year and both are very great teams...

why SA is ranked #1 beats me, but any of the Texas teams could be at the end of the year, I think we've got the best three in the NBA...

If the Spurs think like you, they'll be upset in the first round. NOBODY will coast through the West in any round. Dallas, Phoenix, SA, Houston--who's playing spectacular even without Yao, Utah--they'll surprise some, Denver--would anyone want to play AI and 'Melo in a 7 game series? The conference is stacked in the top 6, and I wouldn't be surprised if a team from the East won this year, simply because the West wore themselves out trying to get to the finals.

Whoever comes out of the west will be significantly better than whoever comes out of the eat. And I don't think the NBA will allow what happened last year to happen again.

No disrespect to SA, but Dallas should be ranked #1. The Spurs took their long rodeo road trip and are now playing great basketball. The Spurs currently have the #3 seed and a probable 2nd round match-up with Phoenix. I like their chances to be in the Western Conference finals, and Dallas will most likely be their opponent. Houston continues to be a notch below the top teams, but could close the gap with the return of Yao Ming. The road to the finals will definately have a Texas flavor, but which road will it be?
