Madison's basketball program has officially hit rock bottom bowing out in the 1st round of the 3A playoffs to an undermanned Glen Rose squad. Thank goodness that there's nowhere to go from here but up for the Trojans.

Glad to see the oldest Flentroy on the roster go down guns blazin in his final high school game by putting in 29. Hopefully tonight's game will serve as a wake-up call for the underclassmen. Roosevelt received a similar wake-up call in 2005 when they lost in the first round to an undermanned Princeton team and they followed that up with a state title last year and is still the favorite to bring another home again this year.

my freshman year, in basketball, when madison came to forney, we were the only team to beat madison (between freshman, jv, and varsity) that year in district...they beat us at madison, and we shared the district title...i wanna say their varsity won state that year haha....

after the game coach max and rush came to our locker room to say congrats...gambill was pretty happy too lol...

True statement. Madison loses in football it's no big deal. Losing to Celina really didn't mean a whole lot because football isn't what most of those kids grow up dreaming about playing at Madison. I remember talking to a few of the kids that next week after losing to Celina and they didn't really seem to care a whole lot because they were ready for basketball to start.

Now basketball is a different story and this might explain how serious they take basketball at Madison. In 2004 Ellis Kidd Sr. hung it up after 28 years (He restarted the program when the school reopened in 1976 for its first year of UIL competition.) and they hired a guy from Oklahoma to take his place. Madison lost the first two games of the season and the principal is ready to fire the guy on the spot and reassign him to a different sport because he didn't like what he was seeing on the court. (The principal at each school in DISD handles the hirings and firings of coaches)

Somehow he managed to cool himself down until district rolled around. We start out with a loss at home to Hutch and then the previous low point of the program (before last night) happened when Madison went to Ferris and got beat. I still remember watching the principal stand up just fuming mad. After saying a few unrepeatable things, he walks over to a guy who had played for and was an assistant for several years under Kidd and tells him "Get ready to go back to basketball tomorrow"...He proceded to fire the head coach the following morning and reassigned him to golf.
