Alaniz named Big 12 Baseball Pitcher of the Week

AUSTIN, Texas -- Texas Longhorns' junior pitcher Adrian Alaniz was tabbed the Big 12 Baseball Pitcher of the Week the league announced on Monday.

Alaniz posted his strongest performance of the season in a 5-2 win over Stanford on Saturday. He pitched seven scoreless innings before yielding his only run in the start of the eighth. He worked seven-plus innings, allowing four hits, including only two that left the infield, and three walks while fanning eight Cardinal.

It marked the second career Big 12 weekly accolade for the Sinton, Texas native.

On the season, Alaniz is 3-1 with a 3.14 ERA and 15 strikeouts in 14.1 innings.

The Longhorns return to action on Tuesday with their home opener against Texas State University at UFCU Disch-Falk Field. First pitch is slated for 2:30 p.m.

The Horns are supposed to play the Islanders at Whataburger Field in April I think. Don't know who's pitching though.

I seriously doubt Adrian will start, but I'm hoping for at least some relief work. The coolest thing would be Buzz vs. Adrian. :D

The Horns are coming to Whataburger Field on March 6 @ 4:00pm. That is a Tuesday afternoon. Would be great if Adrian was scheduled to pitch before his home town fans.

The reserve seats were going pretty fast. My parents bought two tickets last Friday and they were a hot item. If I go it will be last minute and probably get general admission.
