Well, I got to experience my first powerlifting meet yesterday in San Marcos. It was very interesting and I watched some pretty darn good lifters, from quite a few towns & several that are 3a, from what I could tell. I'm still not 100% on what all quantifies a "good" lift from a "scratch", but I have a better understanding now.

I wish I would've had a better vantage point to watch the girls. It looked like there were some good ones, but we were at the opposite end of the gym.

One thing that I learned is that it isn't always the kids that "look" like they will be strong that are and vice versa. At least I now know why "body-builders" walk the way they do....it's those suits they have to squeeze themselves into.  ;)

Unfortunately, since I had never been, I didn't realize they have an awards thing afterward so I left once my son was finished lifting and missed seeing him receive his 3rd place medal in his weight class - <275.5. :(

44INAROW - if you find out how the Cuero kids did, please let me know. Same for anyone from Luling - they had some studs!!!!

Cool! Then maybe you can explain how all that works. This may be the only meet we're invited to this year - it was the only one last year.

What does it take to qualify for the regional meet? Is it reaching certain weights in different meets? Placing in different ones? Something else? Help a mom out, please. :)

to qualify for regionals you have to be top 10 in your region...and then at regionals the top 2 from each region qualify for state...your best weight from all the meets you've been to is what goes towards your regional ranking...

im 9th in region 1.....to make it to region you have to be in the top 10 of the region(11 and 12 go as alternates)...they calculate the top 10 by the lifters with the top ten totals...

Are the region boundaries similar to football/basketball, etc or different? I got the idea that classification doesn't matter, is that right? Sorry to ask so many questions, but it's new for me.

Does Sinton even do Powerlifting anymore? I think I remember them doing away with it when I was in high school. Anyways, the football athletes have slowly gone down in size since over the past couple of years. I don't think they hit the weight like they used to. At leas that's what my brother in law says.
