bless you!!

Region 4 is so weak that it could take a little while to think of a team. ;)

Mathis might have what it takes to go a couple of rounds next year. They returned to the slot-t offense last season after a two-year hiatus, and last year's club was awfully young.

True. Aransas Pass too. It pains me to say that Sinton may, MAY miss the playoffs this year. :weeping:

I think I'm gonna go with Iowa Park. I saw em play a few years ago, and I can't put my finger on it, but there is something there. I'm no swammy, but they should be back in contention in the next few years.

they missed the playoffs. Graham, WF Hirschi, and Vernon made it out of that district.

I saw it, but no one else really stands out to me as a team that could come out of nowhere that could make a deep run in the playoffs. :)

Orange Grove, oops they made the playoffs and went couple of rounds last year. West Oso can improve from last year and go couple of rounds deep. Mathis and AP look like they will compete for playoff spot also. OK Phil now u can say district will be a tough one from 1-6.

Quite possibly the best running back in any class in the state. I'd still take Johnson from Gilmer, but after him I'd want Jermie Calhoun. (Hopefully UT will want him too) He's an exceptional talent, but he plays in relative obscurity playing for the Vandals. Van is a bit more known for what they do in basketball than what they do in football. He excelled in that sport though too as he was the 6th man on the basketball team that won a state title when he was a freshman. Very, very high energy kid.

If he's that good, I'd rather see him at Tech!!

Van is certainly a good pick, but needville is another to look out for.

Who is a team that did well last year but you don't think will do much in '07?

that is a better question

that is a better question needville should be good.....key word should.....

i dont know much about van though

i think several teams will not do as well next year.....certainly a few from 24-3a.......the loss of flannel, carter, and ansley will hurt columbia, sweeny, and wharton respectively........all being playoff teams last year......who knows

Van has more than Calhoun..the talent has been there for a few years, and young talent at that..the problem..and I respect the Van coaches, but they play an archaic system that come play-off time gets exposed time and time again.

BUT this year after talking with some of the staff, they are making a few changes, nothing big, PLUS they have more team speed, which has hurt them the last few years.

Well I know Vernon had a so-so regular season. But made a strong run through the playoffs all the way to the semi's. I think that "Truck" of a runnin back is graduating this year. I wonder what they have returnin, and can they make another deep run in the playoffs?

Good one Carter. I wouldn't be surprised if Caldwell didn't win a few rounds too. Another team to watch in D23 is Navasota, they have some real talent coming back in the backfield with their all district qb and stud rb. With Giddings and Bellville in the district it will be a horse race for third place and one of these two teams will be in the mix.

D23 prediction:
1. Bellville
2. Giddings
3. tied Caldwell &
3. Navasota*
5. La Grange
6. Smithville

*point differential for playoffs

From the ESPN.com and Rivals 2008 Rankings and Projections:

Jermie Calhoun Van,
Van (TX) RB 6-0/190 Texas, Alabama, Houston, Kansas State, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Ole Miss, Texas A&M
Has one of the best size and speed combinations of any running back in the country.

Well of corse I'm biased, and Snyder made it to the third round after beating a so-so brownfield team and a powerhouse Monahans team. They fell short against Vernon in a close one in the third round. They have two of three key runnin backs returning, along with there starting QB and several other key starters on both sides of the ball. They also have memebers of an undefeated JV coming up. I won't make any predictions except to say that they will not be taken seriously by most, and be overlooked by many. Just like Vernon this year who not many people gave them a chance to advance past Sweetwater, Snyder, and powerhouse Greenwood in there trip to the semi's. Again I'm obviously biased, but they will be a contender.

He's looks bigger than that now, I'd say 6'1" or 6'2" 200-210ish.

Here is the address to some video. Take a look at the last run in the second clip. One of the best runs I've seen and it's vs. a very good Brownsboro team.

Where is Van?

Van is about 25 miles West of Tyler on the North side of I-20.

Seriously if you haven't seen Van's Calhoun you need to:

http://texas.rivals.com/video.asp?pkey=49060&section=fbrecruit&vidtype=prospect&vidid=84975

the last run is the best

On topic, I think Van has the talent at the skill positions to make a long run but I think it depends on the O line next year.
