A man goes and buys about $60.00 worth of groceries and puts it in his car. He stops a hardware store to buy an air conditioner filter and leaves the car unlocked He comes out just a few minutes later and the groceries are gone. He has a cell phone and calls the police to report the crime. A policeman drives buy and asks "How did they get into the car?"
The man replies: "Well I was only going to be in the store a few minutes so I left the door unlocked."
The policeman says: "It only takes a thief a few seconds to get the groceries and run. Why didn't you lock the door?"
The man replies: "I didn't think they would look in the glove compartment."

I guess you need to be in the right time perpective. This joke was made in the 1970s when food prices were starting to jump higher. That is where the joke came. Maybe you have to have been alive in the early 1970s to understand it.
