What's the best way/place to get a good deal on a Cingular cell phone?

check out wirefly.com and letstalk.com The kicker with 3rd party companies is that they sit on your rebate for 6+ months whereas Cingular takes 2-3 to "process" the rebate.

find someone you dont know who has the phone you like. wait till they are in a dark alley and hit them from behind and take it.

You guys certainly have some creative ideas.

If I buy one off e-bay do I have to do anything to the phone other than put my card in it?

1) You may have to unlock the phone unless it's a Cingular branded phone.

2) If the phone is listed to be unlocked already...then you will likely still have to change the settings if you want to use it for text and/or internet services.

3) GSM has 4 frequencies...850, 900, 1800, and 1900. In America, 850 and 1900 are used. For Cingular's network the phone MUST have 850 mHz in it. If it has 850 in it then it will also have 1900...but some European phones will have 900/1800/1900 but NOT have 850...and then you won't get too much service with your phone.

If you find any auctions that you like...feel free to post the link to it and I'll double check the specs on it for you.

first off...I bet that it would take a while to get the phone unlocked since it will be set up entirely different than any phone that has come before it. Also, there is the possibility that Apple designs the phone so that, even when unlocked, it isn't capable of reading anything but a Cingular SIM card and/or a specific type of Cingular SIM card. In the 2+ years I was with Cingular...there were 5 or 6 different types of SIM cards that were introduced and some of them weren't able to work in various models of phone. At this point...anything related to the iPhone is still speculation until it hihts the market. I for one am looking forward to testing it out and (hopefully) buying one! :)

one other thought...I'm assuming that you have a Cell One phone that is GSM and not CDMA, right?
