Texas Christian University won the college football National Championship with a perfect 11 - 0 - 0 record in 1938. The teams did not have the shutouts that the Aggies were to have next year in 1939 nor as many shutouts. However they had the Heisman Trophy winner winner in QB Davey O'Brien who with his offensive teammates scored a lot of points. TCU had a great defense that year and still had three shutouts and except for 14 points Arkansas scored on them the most anyone could score on them was 6 or 7 points the rest of the games. They outscored their opponents 269 to 60.

They started out by beating Centenary 13 to 0.

They then had their closest game of the year against Arkansas winning 21 to 14.

Then they beat Temple 28 to 6.

Then the Aggies 34 to 6. The Aggies were to be NC's in 1939.

Then they beat Marquett 21 to 0.

They beat Baylor next 39 to 7.

The Tulsa was their next victim 21 to 0.

Then they beat Texas 28 to 6.

They defeated Rice 29 to 7.

The last game they beat rival SMU 20 to 7.

They played in the Sugar Bowl Game in New Orleans against Carnegie Tech who was at 7 - 2. It was a good game and TCU won 15 to 7.

The Associated Press awarded TCU the NC in 1938 and it was well deserved. The Davey O'Brien award for the nation's outstanding qb is given in honor of the great TCU QB who even though not big was outstanding.

Remember I am a UT fan doing my best to remember this great team and those that know more or see corrections please share with us. This was a great team worth remembering along with their great QB.

So apparently USC hasn't staked a claim to the 1938 National title yet??

SMU won the championship in 1935 becoming the first Texas team to ever play in the Rose Bowl...TCU finished that season #2 just behind SMU.
